Hello!

I have a work laptop that I often need to take with me on long trips. We are allowed to use the laptop for personal reasons because of this fact. So the way it works is that there are two partitions on the drive - The main partition having all my business information and applications etc. and the second partition having all my files and applications.

I installed civilization4 with all the upgrades (warlords and beyond the sword) and realized that although the application runs from my secondary partition (drive X) and all the main program files are located there .. that the saved games, configuration file, screenshots, etc are all stored on the primary OS partition under 'C:\DocandSet\user\mydocuments\mygames\beyondthesword'

Will it be possible to change this default directory? Even when the directory is removed or renamed it will put a new one in its place and also when I tried using a shortcut to the same folder on the X drive, the Civ4 application was not cooperative.

Any suggestions?

open the civilizationIV.ini (for each of the game there is a separate one) and set the save path you want here (replace the 0 with the path you need):
; Save Path - relative to working (Civ4) folder
FileName = 0

another way (which is more likely to work without glitches) is to change the $Home directory of your windows install -> but that would also move your my documents folder...

What operating system is this?

Windows XP

I saw that ini entry but it wasn't so obvious from the name that it could take a path :)

Thank you! Im not sure I want to change the location of the mydocuments folder .. but youre right if it ends up buggy then I might need to ...

Thanks again :)

I came across this thread and thought I'd attempt to revive it by asking what the actual syntax necessary for that line in the INI file is.

Is it just

FileName = C:\My Folder\Civ 4 Save Games , or do you need to enclose paths with spaces in them in quotations? Is it more nuanced than that?

Not working. I have changed all of the *.ini for Civ IV, Beyond the Sword, and Warlords in both the Documents folder and in the game folder. Save game still defaults to C: and I have just about maxed out C. Every thing possible should be on D:
