Changing Votes

Is it possible to, having already cast a vote, change it? Like in an election thread? The way it would be done would have to be by posting in the topic, and then simply swiching the vote from one category to the other when tallying. I don't really see any reason why it shouldn't be possible, but still, it hasn't been stated anywhere.

Good point, since saying where to subtract the vote from and where to add it pretty much ruins it. But the election office could be pmed about it, if that was a problem.

In a perfect world it would be a fabulous idea, transferable votes at a moments notice. But I doubt anyone would want to put that kind of work in.

Speaking from experience, just keeping track of all the nominations was hard enough, I dont even want to consider how difficult it would be keeping track of all the votes.

Not enough people would volunteer, and the mods have more important things to do, as they've stated in the past.

This is subject to fraud problems. You could vote for one thing, then claim you voted for the other and take someone's vote away. The only way it could work would be with open ballots.

And I for one would not want that.

 not to be insulting to Thunderfall, but he refused to look at the census to see who the users were who didnt vote for both options because it was too much effort. There is no chance in hell he'd waste that much time on the demogame.

Well, in my experiance elsewhere it seemed to work. It wouldn't be a fancy procedure or anything, and it wouldn't be encouraged or used often. But if you accidentally voted for the wrong person, you could fix it.

Sorry, Epimethius. No matter how you slice it, this is unacceptable practice. To wit, this can be used to alter voting strategy after a desired result is achieved.

Example: Let's look at the current Presidential election. Right now DaveShack has a safe lead with 23 votes, while Chieftess is in second with 14, and upstart candnidate donsig is on the move with 12 votes. Say that you voted for DaveShack but were also impressed by donsig's campaign. Well, with the Presidency all but locked up for DS, you can now claim that you made a mistake and really meant to vote for donsig. After this, Dave merely loses a vote he didn't need anyway while donsig moves a step closer to the Vice Presidency.

Once you leave the voting booth, your vote is sealed. Sorry. :(

Could this change of vote just apply to polls in the polls forum?

I, for one, have a vote I would love to change in the polls. However, with all the problems we have even getting a vote accomplished, think how much more difficult it would be if votes could be changed.

I think getting something to a vote is too difficult, and then the vote goes on so long that it is just too ponderous an undertaking.

Just think well, and read all discussion threads before voting on anything. You won't make mistakes in voting that often. It's ridiculous to change votes after voting. That's one big chaos. A vote=vote.

I am 100% against changing votes for many reasons, it would have to be a public poll, if it wasnt well you can get mutliple votes for one person or what Donovan said... Also it would put an extreme amount of workload on the mods

Personally, I've wanted to take back my vote from 2000 for a long time. And now, this year, I get the chance to do so.

We could change votes, but then we don't really know who voted. Besides, we'd have to ask Thunderfall to check, and fiddle with the database everytime.
