(In order of viable trade) Some will not give us any (or little - 1 or 2) GPT for luxeries, so that makes them less viable). Also, if it is decided not to trade with another civ (say, the Zulus), that extra resource can be traded to Rome or Greece for more GPT. However, that may increase their chances for WLTKD.

Greece -

Ivory --> 10 GPT, 9 gold upfront

Then trade world maps immediately (same screen, same turn) for only 2 gold for printing costs.

****************************************

Rome -

Horses --> 15 GPT, (3 gold upfront) - 3 gold is optional if we want to trade spices

Rome will also give:

Spices --> 6 GPT
or
Spices --> WP, 3GPT, 30 gold
or
Spices --> 4GPT, 35 gold

*NOTE: Rome is at war with the Babylonians. Except for horses, it will take them 10 turns to reach Babylon through the rugged terrain (and through the Aztec homelands).

**NOTE: If we do go for the horse trade, after it's agreed, immediately trade:
Spices --> WP, 3GPT, 30 gold

Do this trade: (same screen, same turn)
I'm not sure if doing the trades together affects the outcome...

Horses --> 15 GPT
Spices --> 3GPT, 30 gold

****************************************

China
Incense or Ivory --> 116 gold (150 in treasury)

China is not very willing to give us any GPT, which make me a little suspicious. It does temporarily deplete their trasury, though.

****************************************

Aztecs
Incense or Ivory --> 2 GPT, 30 gold
or
Incense or Ivory --> 36 gold (entire treasury)

****************************************

India
Ivory --> WM, 17 gold (entire treasury)

They will give us silks, but it is costly.

****************************************

Iroquois
Incense or Spices --> WM, 5 gold (entire treasury)

****************************************

Zulus (too poor for viable trade. They want too many resources and gold for silks. They seem desperate.)
Incense, Spice or Ivory --> WM, 2 gold (entire treasury)

We cannot trade with Babylon

We also need better infrastructure. The roads to the 2 empires will be connected in two turns. There's also many unconnected resources, including iron. We must connect our other irons, incase one is depleted! The workers by New York can build roads to that iron just north-north-west of them in 2 more turns. There's an extra dye by Civantoria that can have roads built to it. That will give us one more resource to trade.

I disagree with this logic. If we keep the iron unconnected, then there is no chance of it depleting, thus keeping it in reserve. IMO, the only reason to connect to more than one source of a given strategic resource is if we want to sell it to a civ that is losing a war to bolster its defense so that it doesn't get eliminated.

But, if we don't connect it and the one we have is depleted we will go w/o Iron while we wait for it to be connected. Thus, I see no reason NOT to connect it, we'd just go w/o the wait period if one is depleted, which rarly happens. Anyway, it gives us an immediate back-up in case it happens.

But we wouldn't need it immediately. All cities already producing iron (or any strategic resource) required units will continue to produce that unit without the iron. A long as we are always ready to connect it, we will be fine. Incidentally, on what terrain is this iron on?

Renew deal with Rome because of a trade network and prehaps China, if the military advisor is alright with China, I suspect they are prepairing for war. Only accept deals that involve the deal and nothing else (unless we can get gold).

Resources deplete completely randomly. It does not matter if they are hooked up to a road or not.

I will not be able to attend tonight, and neither can Punkbass, due to Mother's Day. (BTW: Happy Mother's Day, for all the mothers of Phoenatica!). If Cyc can make it, he is our new chat rep. My priorities, as discussed in the Culture Department thread, are as follows:

(Abydos) voluntarily join our empire, due to their envy of our incredible culture! This is the focus of our next library, and it will probably be rushed at the beginning of the next chat, depending on budget allocation. We should also look at hurrying temples in some of our larger cities that have unrest, such as Philadelphia and Boston.

1. Rush a Library in Abydos, as long as we can afford it. Should cost 140 gold. I am not sure what our new budget allocation will be, we had 7 gold left from the first time, and about 12 from the last time, plus whatever we get this time.

2. If there is gold left, rush the temples in Philadelphia and Boston.

3. I don't think we have reached a conclusion on the FP city yet, but if we do start it, make sure that there is at least a library and temple there first.

4. Complete the other libraries/temples currently under construction.

I thought the only way to get iron was to connect it...

Are you sure? This is one of the discussed strategies over at Apolyton (well, it was). Do you have a source? I'm pretty confident that resource won't expire if it is unconnected, because it is unused.

It seems to happen quite a bit in my games...

Chieftess:I'm not sure if doing the trades together affects the outcome...

In my experience, no, but it's sometimes better to do the trades together because we may be overpaying slightly for 1 trade which can be counterbalanced by another.

I moved the posts from the Turn 10 thread into here. If any of the posts moved do belong in the turn 10 thread, just let me know.

If someone could confirm that the chat has happened, I will close this thread tomorrow. That will help insure that chat ideas are not blended for the turns.

The turn chat is complete, and the game save and log have been posted!
