Check out this thread if you haven't already...

INteresting... the OSX Theme was slow to load and I'm on a T1 here at work.

additionally, Last week I switched to the green and yellow theme. when I went home, it was back at the default....and when I came here the next day, it was the default theme again as well. I'll see if this works when I get home.

Same happened to me; you need to set it at the main forum page. Even when I selected it in my usercp, it wouldn't work.

Well, at least this time when I switched from PC ayt work to my mac at home, it worked!

Hmm. Darn :(

Just switched to Jaguar and you're right, the ROFL heads aren't Rolling...

 You just can't win, can you?

Something is up w/ this template (Mac OS X). On my Toshiba at school, the tabs surrounding our usernames are the same width as the info. box beneath them. In the Mac OS X forum template, the username tabs are shorter (on my machine).

sirromdivad --- So the browser isn't an issue w/ rotfl rolling? Its definitely the template?

No, it's definitely the Mac OS X template, when run on an OS X machine. (I believe the irony of that has already been noted...) No animated smileys in either Moz 1.1 or IE 5.2 when using the OS X forum style, but they are animated when using a different style (well, ok, I only checked with the Classic style...)

What I'm noticing is that they animated for a second or two (it varies) right when you load the page, and then freeze up.

Although, dojoboy, oddly enough I'm *not* having the problem you described with the tab width on my machine...

Thanks for the tip. I just put Mozilla 1.1 up as my default browser on 10.2 (which I installed on a new HD) It is a considerable improvement over IE because it doesn't have a couple of those delightful bugs that made IE such a pain. Now, if I could only remember all my passwords...

gfeier, do you have to make two downloads for Mozill 1.1 (OS 9.x & OS X)?

There are apparently two different downloads at versiontracker.com, each in the appropriate section. Here's what they say about the requirements:

System Requirements
Macintosh

* Mac OS 8.5 or later
* PowerPC processor (266 MHz or faster recommended)
* 64 MB RAM
* 36 MB of free hard disk space

I didn't bother with the OS 9 version, though, since I'm waiting for FileMaker Pro 6.0 and when that gets here, I won't be going back to OS 9 any more. I spent 14 years in the Classic Mac OS, but X is so much better that it's almost like when I replaced my Apple II with a Mac II.

OK, does anyone know what the solution is to make the bloody Default Browser preferences stick in 10.2?!?!! I'm really tired of it reverting to IE from Moz.

Delete IE? :D

Believe me, I would, but I need to keep it around to make sure that my website isn't doing something weird on the browser which a significant portion of the world (sigh) uses out of inertia, entropy and ignorance ;)

I just keep trying stuff, and keep being foiled. I think that there were solution to this problem for pre-Jaguar OS X, but Apple must've changed something.

Yes, I had this problem too. The issue is that a number of Mac apps cache the InternetConfig prefs in OSX, and write them out when you quit them. For example, you could launch Entourage, change your preferred browser in the OSX prefs, note that it changed, quit Entourage and watch in disbelief as the pref changes back.

The fix is to quit pretty much all your internet apps, open the OSX internet prefs and then change the browser. The odds of this choice sticking will increase by quite a bit - I've had it keep Mozilla for me for a while now.

Brad,

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately it was a no-go. I seem to be having a two-fold problem. One is that Mail steadfastly refuses to open any browser other than IE when I click on a link in an email. I fear this may be a "feature." Grrr.

Additionally, it sems that whenever I Quit from the System Preferences is when it resets my default browser -- if I just close the Prefs and let them sit in the dock, when I go back to it it'll still say Moz (although even when it says Moz=Default Browser, Mail will still open IE. I say again, grrr.) But as soon as I quit and reopen, it's right back to IE. I tested it first thing after logging out and back in again, after restarting, etc just to make sure there was nothing up and running which might be overwriting the prefs.

Any other thoughts? I suppose I'll just get over it eventually, but it's a little irritating....

Thanks again, though!

You could always learn UNIX and fix it yourself. ;)

Hi again,

OK, I know I'm fixating, but I've been isolating the problem. Turns out that all my other browsers will stick as the default browser (and behave properly -- links from Mail / whathaveyou will actually be opened in the default browser) in Internet Prefs -- Chimera, OmniWeb, and of course the ubiquitous IE. It's just Moz 1.1 that Jaguar seems to totally ignore.

Am I the only one here? Brad, any thoughts?

OK, is it actually possible to fix this through Terminal, et al? Some preferences file I can go and edit manually? I'll do it. It's driving me crazy. I think I'm taking it too personally....
