So ho is better for Domination/Conquest victory? China or Rome?
For me it's Augustus Caesar. Because of Legions and Ballistas.

Wu Zeitan, 2x attack crossbow that gets upgraded to 2x attack rifllemen. just think riflemen that can attack 2x a turn.

I thought that units that melee attack with 2 movement points spend all their movement in attack, meaning they can't withdraw. What makes them able to have movement points for another attack then?

Augustus is great if you have iron. Wu wins hands down if you haven't.

Both have their own benefits. China is better at handling the unit maintenance and science.

3 times I've played Rome, and the last 2 times I had no iron...

I've played China more, and prefer it... Paper Maker and Cho-Ku-Nu are 2 of the best. They, and China's ability to earn that little extra credits, tips the balance, imho.

Great general bonus for China is very powerful. That 35% bonus when you are taking a city, powerful.
My strategy as china was to use one swordsmen, 3 Cho-Ko-Nu and great general. Those Crossbows would take a major chunk of the cities strength down.

I think people are forgetting major changes in last patch regarding Rome :-
  • %age bonuses are nerfed all over, this makes Rome UA more powerful. Now Roman UA can provide more boost than even a factory !
  • Legions are 50% cheaper making them extremely useful.
If u don't get iron then that is your bad luck. You may say that Mongols are not good for domination either because if u don't get horses, you loose your UA main benefit & UU.
China is more versatile but Rome is better for domination.

Wu is better. Caesar isn't really conquest-orientated at all; he just likes having a ton of cities but doesn't mind founding them himself. The idea with Caesar is just to conquer as much as possible during the classical era then settle down and spam buildings, Order style. Wu isn't limited to warfare in a certain era but can be effective in all of them.

Neither is really a war-civ, actually. China is more about science rate, they're rationalists. You're better off trying to conquer the world with the Mongols or nazi Germany.

I vote for China.

1) Rome recieved a production boost from the last patch indirectly by the nerf on factories and other items. On a relative basis, its bonus is better and last all game.

Also, its Legions are better on a relative basis due to the decline in the LS strenght and being cheaper.

However, I think China recieved a much larger combat boost in the last patch:

1) The bug on range units doing on 4 pts of damage max was fixed; and CKN strenght was increased. Given that, CKN are simply one of the strongest units in the game for an extremely long period of time. Add in the GG superior bonus and more of them, the fact that Mech Inf when upgraded from CKN get two attacks, and the lack of the iron requirement, I think you have a better Civ for war over a longer period of time.

Three CKN and one medium strength melee unit with a GG can destroy a city in one, or a the most two attacks and be ready to rock and roll to the next one almost immediately. The Legions simply can't do that as fast. And if you don't have iron, well............

China. The Ballistas and Legions come around in one era, the shortest one in the game, and they don't have effects that carry on when upgraded. The cho-ku-nus extra great generals from the UA, and extra funds from the paper maker make China the better choice in this poll. And I would say they are the best civ in the game.

I think Augustus is only really good if you have access to iron. As previously stated. While Wendy Wu does not require the iron.

Very true, without Iron. Rome sucks.

I haven't try playing as Bu Shek Tien yet. but I can still beat her Zhuge Nu (if you pefer modern romanization meow) troops and knock her out while I played as Greek.. even so. she's still superior to Romans (in one game. i've saw her handily conquered Roman Empire)

I've watched a chinese series dedicated to her before. at that time. even Koreans and Japanese are her vassals.

Rome is only better if you have iron and only during the classical era. China is better in every other era.

last and only time i played as rome i had only 4 irons (even with the option abundant resources set) when i needed to build balistas and legions so they are not my favourites.

Unlucky I guess. I played as Rome twice & both of the time I had enough iron to create a sizeably army & I gained even more after defeating some rivals.

Chinas UU is incredibly powerful, for a longer time than Romes UUs. The Paper Maker is also fantastic, basically 3GPT difference for any PM built compared to a library.
However, Rome with a lot of iron, early game is very powerful, Legions are very strong, but what makes China so good is that the Chokonus upgrade to double attacking Riflemen. If you have been warring with them (which you should have) most will probably have March, which makes them heal after every turn regardless of any action, which obviously rocks.
I would go for China

I'd take Arabia over both for conquest as well as Songhai. With the gg nerfs to china, it's UA feels less valuable.
