A choke point is a point where you set the AI into a trap.
You occupy a ridge of hills and fortify it with enough defense and enough artillery.
The AI will try to pass it, only to be slaughtered by the bombardments and the infantry at the end.
Who has a good savegame of it here to post? PLS post it. Dig into your savegames.

Actually, a choke point is a place where the available terrain narrows - for example, an isthmus connecting two portions of a continent is a choke point. It's not really particularly effective in most TBS games because the biggest advantage is that the defender can reduce the amount of enemies coming at him, and since stacks aren't particularly vulnerable, the only reason for choke points is because it means you have fewer tiles to improve with defenses.

It sounds like you're talking more about the Funnel of Death here - make a corridor to something the AI wants to get at, line it with ZoC units and artillery, and blast the AI units as they try to get through. Extreme example of a Funnel of Doom here.

I remember and early warlord game where there was this natural 'metor crater' in the middle of the map - it was a circle of mountains with a few inlets. the open end faced the AI, I had control of the rest of the bowl. I fortified the entire ridge and placed Infantry in the fortresses and loaded them with arty. I put my sipahi and tanks to the rear and brought them up by rail. I left a small opening at the back of the bowl to draw them in. I used armies to block all the low land passages.

The AI would enter the bowl and be on flat ground while making their way to the opening. Arty would slam them the entire way and my attack units would pick them off by rail.

I won the game by tripping a 100k victory, but it sure was a fun game. I'll see if I can find the save or some pictures. Looking back it was a huge waste of resources, but it was still FUN!

wow. nice funnel.
I made a funnel once while on a choke point (that's what I meant originally) by putting defense on hills...

Heck that’s a lot of armies in that funnel.

Choke point is a geographical feature that precludes/reduces movement such as a an isthmus, a narrow valley or a narrow opening to sea. I find its worth stationing a few troops on these choke points to stop opponents exploring into your territory early in the game.
