You get more land for you, without paying for it. So you can go without war against the native oe other european settlements. Natives abandon their settlements sometimes, if they ´ve no land to cultivate, and give the land to you. So it isn´t good if you ´ve a mission there.
as far as I understand it just means your cultrual border (the little red line around your colonies) expanded, where as this border moves further away you can use land without having to buy it from the natives first, check the 'pedia and the manual for anything else the cultural border is good for that I can't think of since I haven't had coffee yet.
welcome to the board, I'm new too(sorta, returned civ player) and you don't get the noob-rush with civ fans, so nobody is goin' pick on either of us...I think it's cuz teh games are much more sedate and longer paced, even in headsup pvp, it's really hard to talk smack for 71 turns while your army slowly inches across the map
