city name lists

Folks,

One of the annoyances I find in Civ III is the repeating of city names on large maps, e.g. "New" London, "New" Paris, etc.

And yeah, The Mumbles is a real English town, but gimme a break -- Lizard Lick is a real American town, too (in North Carolina), but you don't find it on the Civ III list along with Philadelphia and Boston, eh?

So I've been making my own list of city names for the civilizations I've played. I'll try to attach the France list to this message. If there's general interest, I'll post the others (India, England, Russia).

I got through 10 or so German cities and even though I could think of about 10 more without problems, it was already coughing out "New" this and that.

But I have to know - where are the city lists, so I can modify them?

You can use the editor if you want to make a mod that'll have more city names. Just uncheck "Use Default Rules" and then go to Rules/Edit Rules/Civilizations. There you can add cities to any civ's list.

The city lists are in the civ3mod.bic file in the Civ III directory. I think you can modify them with the civ3edit.exe program. If not, I know you can modify them with the "hacked editor" available somewhere in this forum.

But what I don't see in my original post is the attachment. Hmmm... I'll try to attach the india list to this post. If it doesn't show up, I must be doing something wrong.

Okay, there's the India list.

That list is enough to cover cities for two huge map I believe.
