As we don't have yet city2 governor and his thread, I'd like to open the discussion here.
I think that the situation is not optimal as the production bonus from horses is big! Well it would have been better if we would have changed the production into worker just after the city has grown to size 2. But that has happend long ago. Well I propose 2 possiblities what to do now:
1) work the grassland forest instead of horses -> city will grow in 10 turns and barracks will be completed as well in 10 turns, afterwards build the worker (due 12 turns) as the the increase in size will increase the production
2) siwtch to worker (due 15 turns) then continue barracks and the worker in the meanwhile will start the pasture on horses (+2hammer, +1commerce, due 7 turns) (that's for now +50% production in the city), afterwards the worker will build the farm on wheat (+2food) -> big bonus to the city growth

Choice 1 advantage: barracks earlier in case of need (war)
Choice 2 advantage: production bonus from horses earlier
In both cases we'll have the worker and as well the prod. bonus earlier than with the current situation

What the others say?

*Ahem* I take it you have not read the threads in the Government thread, namely the Minister of the Interior. That Nomad Bryce has apointed me as Governor of city 2 ;)

Personaly, I view that the second option is better suited for gaining horses for the empire and for our cavalry and other mounted units.

*cough*Abydos*cough*

Now I know that you are the governor of Abydos.
But as you haven't opened "an office" in government thread, I'll write here.
I'd like to know why you decided to build the Obelisk in Abydos. Wouldn't it be better to build a worker and go for the 2 resouces or to build some more axemen against the Mongols?

Any chance someone could post a screenshot? It would be easier to decide between the two sugestions if we could see what the land and the city screen.

gvie me about 30 minutes and I will have one up...working on SoW stuff now.

As SoW....I had the same questions about the obelisk...we need those horses and another worker to help connect the cities.

I definitely think that we need to work on a worker in Abydos. Hooking up the horses should be major goal right now. We have denied them to the Mongols but we need to put them to use. Also, we would have access to a nice cheap UU if we can research horseback riding IIRC.

here is the screenshot

It appears things have changed since the original post. The barracks is complete and we're working on an obelisk. Didn't make a worker in between, did we?

NOPE, no worker...

also CivGeneral was the DP...so unsure as to what happend. He must have changed his mind.

The obelisk is unnecessary, I feel. I don't think there's any use crying over spilt milk and I really don't think we should restart the obelisk just for the sake of the wasted production.

Currently the city is constructing the worker ATM. I originaly had the obelisk in place due to it's close proximity to another civilization and felt that it needed a better culture push. But I am willing to have the worker inplace to construct thoes roads and into the horses as well as constructing a pasture.

Right now I have placed in the instructions to have any advalible worker (Including the one that will soon pop out) to road up to the horses and build a pasture on them. Once the workers are done with that, I have placed another set of instructions for those workers to road up and meet up with the workers roading to Abydos to make the Abydos-BW Highway compleated ahead of scedual. After that I have the worker of Abydos to construct a road to the wheat (if the Abydos-BW highway bypasses the wheat) and construct the farm there. If the Abydos-BW highway does infact run directly into the wheat, then all is needed is a farm.

For the queue, its still currently building a worker. Once the worker is finished, I have set it to build an obelisk as a place holder and placed specific instructions to switch imediately to chariots once Abydos has direct connections to thoes horses.

Abydos cant build an ax..no access to copper. A warrior to be upgraded later to an ax/sword would be helpful and cheap. Unless we trade for archery then an archer would be a good build for sentry duty on some of those hills.

If we are going to build a unit my choice would be first archer, second warrior and then once we get horses a few chariots and then spears for defense agisnt the Mongolian UU.

CivGeneral, in my opinion it would be better to build fisrt the pasture and then the road and as well the farm prior to the road. This way we can get the production bonus few turns earlier.

What other options do we have for building after the worker completes?
Units: Worker, Warrior, Settler
Buildings: Granary, Obelisk, Library

Maybe we should be working on an axeman instead of the obelisk.
How can I build an axemen if I have no copper comming into the city?. Find me an alchemist to change rocks into copper and well talk ;) :joke:

That's another point where would Sailing help! If we can get Sailing through trade, that same turn Abydos is connected (via Rivers and Coast) to the Capital!

It looks as though we'll be getting archery through a trade. Should we recruit an archer unit once the worker pops out?
