Civ 1 versions (again)

I've returned to Civ 1 after trying really hard to like Civ 5: Gods and Kings. In Civ 5, the game tries to restrict things that you can do, in an attempt to improve the gameplay. But in Civ 1, the player is given more free reign to do whatever he/she wants and it's much more fun.

Anyway, like most of you I'm playing Civ 1 DOS using DOSBox. As a teenager, I used to play Civ 1 on an Amiga (the awesome AGA version if anyone knows what I'm talking about). I know the DOS versions have differences with each other but what about the Amiga and Mac versions? Where do they sit compared to the DOS version? Is the AI more or less aggressive for example? Anyone know?

I'd like to get hold of the Mac version because the graphics seem nicer than the DOS version (I don't like the graphics in CivWin at all) and play it in an emulator but it seems next to impossible to track down. I'd happily pay for it. Any ideas?

As far as I know they behave the same algorithmically. Are you aware of UAE? It's one of the oldest and most complete emulators. Perfect for your Ultimate Soundtracker nostalgia.

Yes, I'm aware of UAE, but to be honest I haven't tried it in many years and the last time it was quite a hassle to setup on my Mac. I'm keep to try the Mac version of Civ 1 as the few screenshots I've seen on the net seemed to show a nice visual improvement over Civ DOS.

So, Civ 1 Mac - anyone know where I can get hold of it?

Actually I think there is a version for windows with much better sprites than the dos version, try googling civilization for windows, and if it doesn't work out pm me

Yeah, I have it but I actually was under the impression the Mac graphics were better - after examining some screenshots, I see they're actually the same as the Windows version. Oh well, I'd still like to try it to see if it plays differently at all (different versions of the DOS game play slightly differently, for example)
