Civ 2 - the biggest work-stopper on the planet!

GenghisK and I have found a new way that Civ can stop work. Since we both work in city of London, we met up last Friday for lunch. That ended up being a two and a half hour lunch hour! And yeah, we may have mentioned Civ in the conversation at some time or other.

Absolutely right, Stormerne, but not true. If I remember, we spoke about Civ 90% of the time during lunch...

Civ work stopper? YES! At least it's an excellent lunch conversation topic. Stormerne and I can guarantee that

2 hours for a lunch speaking about Civ. Who did better? I'm sure, nobody.

99% of my posts to this forum are made from work, but in my defense, since I monitor a computerized system for a 200 building complex (think major university in the central NY area) I often have spare time, even after I take care of all my mundane office chores, study new systems, and learn the protocols of our new inventory and preventive maintenance system. All of that takes about two-thirds of the shift, and I always keep one eye on the systems monitor. My employers recognized the impossibility of maintaining a high level of alertness with nothing but an unchanging screen to look at. That's why we have a second terminal with broadband internet access.

(In fact, just now, I had to leave this message unsent, and respond to a small emergency. But now I'm back.)

So I guess since work comes first, I'm not a true addict yet.

Imagine if you will, living in a subtropical island with a pop. of 10,000 four hours by ferry from the nearest medium-sized city, and where you are the only person who speaks your mother tongue. Then magine that work consists of 2 busy hours out of 8 in the office. Then picture rain. Weeks and weeks of rain. Now get yourself a Civ 2 CD, some raw tuna and beer, and see when you stop...

Yeah, I'd rather have sushi

More seriously, I think I won't mind spending time in this forum or having a "quick"(let's say 4 or 5hours...) civ game or even have lunch again with Stormerne. He's very nice and a *diabolic* brain concerning winning tactics and has so much tips to share...

Anyway it's definitely more useful to play Civ (or even Colonization) to learn history than reading boring books. Definitely! So I don't think it's really a work stopper but rather an "entertaining way to work"

Right?

I'm also in the 'post from work' bunch. It helps to pass the time on many an all to boring day to post and read the posts from people all over the globe. I see it even brings people together, like Stormerne and Ghengis Khan up there, so it is a very good thing indeed.

Right, right. I'd never thought I could meet somebody via this forum. Anyway, now I'm sure. This is a great forum. And a worse work stopper than the Civ game itself too!

In fact, I was supposed to work hard this week but...mmm...

Posting from work? That's just sad! No wonder the American economy is saggin! But I agree, I'm sad too. I mean, it's just a forum! But it's just as important to me as my baseball glove! There have been many situations involving addiction:

"Dammit, I'm never going to leave things till the last minute AGAIN! I gotta finish this speech! But first, I'll check out if anyone replied to my thread in the OT...."

Many a times, I could've finished something in an hour, but I just keep building cities until 6 o'clock in the morning, and then finish it.
