Ok, I'm sorry to say that I haven't played SMAC, but for the others:

1: Civilization 2, the greatest game ever made

2: Colonization, not really much by today's standards, but a classic nevertheless

3: Civilization 3, A good attempt, but still doesn't surpass it's predecessor

;)

EDIT: This poll is probaby biased, since it's in the Civ 3 section...

SMAC + AC (Alien Crossfire) all the way up !!!

Civ3 is sooooo pale when compared to SMAC IMHO.
man those techs and background were so well thought, I can barely imagine the time it took Fireaxis to crank em out !

Civ3 has its strenghts of course, but very very inferior to SMAC, design and innovation wise.

Inventing SilkSteel is better imho than reinventing the wheel for the 20th time.

Just my 2 cents anyways.

Does anyone still have Colonization for Windows 95? I lost one of my floppies and I can only find Coloniztion for DOS on the net because they are cracking down on abandon games. Can someone send it to me?

When I voted for Colonization I thought I'd be the only one. Now I don't feel too far out of sync. There is something addictive about Colonization. An intangible that has me completely captivated. Well, I do find time to play Civ3. ;) But Colonization has been my long time favorite. I will search the web for hours looking for updates, add-ons, resurrected interest in a follow-on. There was one once, but I think it has fallen apart. I thought maybe 1601 would compare. Not. OMG what a sucky attempt. Oh well, there's always Civ3.

I will trade any of (Civ2, SMAC, MOO2, 1601) for the time of day. Please get these out of my sight.

I´m proud on the ppl of Civfanatics, last results say 8 for Colonization vs 3 for Civ2.We´re almost halfway there to beating SMAC ;)

Mack;that´s a lovely site :)

Mighty;hope you found it there, but Colonization plays well from DOS too, never had problems with it (compared to loads of other DOS titles, usually they mess up with FAT32)

Gavrilo, that´s how I feel about Colonization too,but MOO2 wasn´t that bad.It had it´s flaws but designing one´s own spacecraft was a lotta fun.

Publius;
Dirk, what the hell are you talking about? You cannot honestly mean that!
Oh yes I do Publius  Am not saying Civ2 was the worst game ever, there certainly were others, thought about buying Rebellion too but everyone said it was no good,I do have a bunch of games which suck, but Civ2 certainly is the weakest link in the list of games above and I never liked it,(don´t seem to be the only one either :) ) dunno if you played Civ1 or Colonization,if so and you liked those games one would or should be dissapointed in what Civ2 actually was.At first I thought I had lost my interest in Civilization, with all these FPS,but when I got sick of it,I played Colonization and would be "sucked" into it again,I´d even play Civilization 1 and had loads of fun with Master of Orion2 too, these games were great,so it had to be Civ2.But no need for me to type more, think brody said it best:

It wasn't worth the time between games, and it wasn't enough of a difference to keep me occupied. I played it on and off for about a year and never cared for it much.

That´s exactly how I felt mate :)

Well hope the friends of Colonization soon go into offense to swallow SMAC :goodjob:

well i like civ III the most but since i just got it it iin my mind is great a new game i'll play it 24/7 for one month then just play it once in a while until it just gets old, anyways i've never even gotten into the modern age yet (game ended while 2 turns to finish advanced flight) and now on my second game it looks as if i might make it to modern but still i like civ2 more cause it's more of a classic than civ3 which is still new but that might change soon never played SMAC because it costs $10 at the store and cheap games never are better than a good lunch, but i might buy it soon after a few more games with civ3
