Civ 4 compatible with 64 bit Windows Vista?

Having gotten the incompatible message when attempting to run Civ 4, I found the following solution worked!!! I'd tried selecting the Windows XP compatablilty mode before and it still failed. I have no clue why this Windows NT solution works, but here it is:

"I called take2 support and this was their response. It worked for me and it is easy.

Take 2: Please try the following

To run the game in Windows NT Compatability mode.

- right click on the shortcut for the game
- left click on properties
- click on the Compatability tab
- tick the box called "Run this program in compatability mode for"
- select Windows NT
- click on apply
- click on ok

Run the game again

This worked for me for Civ 4 Complete with Windows Vista, fully updated, with DirextX 11, in September 2015….thought I'd share as it took several attempts:

From the single DVD, install Civilization 4 Complete in C:\Games\Civ4 (must create this folder and must install into this one only!). Install as Admin (right-click on the setup.exe file).

Download Civ 4 BTS patches 3.17 & 3.19 and unzip into C:\Civ4patch (must create this folder and must place the patches into this one only!). Patiently install them one at a time as Admin.

Use Windows Explorer and click on the C:\Games\Civ4\Beyond the Sword folder. Run the BTS exe file as Admin - it will work!

The game started at 1280x720 pixels with graphics level High. Recommended to not touch the graphics quality settings as it find what is appropriate for your machine.
