Erm, just a quick point....if you going to buy a very expensive new console, then spend a large amount on a Civ Iv for PS3 game, then buy a mouse and a keyboard....then why not just play on a PC, as that's what you seem to want to turn your new console into :mischief:

After all, if you're posting on here you've already got a pc .....

but the Wii is really just a gimik. wow it has a motion sensor controller but it has hardly anything to back that up. Its games have are just childish (Example: that Wii sports with that rubbish tennis thing), their graphics are backwards and personaly i would not pay £170 ($340) for it,

Wii Sports was just a FREE game with the console, which is only meant to be played for 10 minutes at a time. It is not showcasing the abilities of either the Wiimote or the Wii itself, rather its more 'If we can do this now, just think of the possibilities when we figure out just how we can use this to its full potential.

(now bringing my liking of the PS3 back into the equation i have this to say) i would much rather pay £430 ($860) more and go for the PS3 becuase its like 8x more powerful, its games aren't great rite now but it has huge potential, it has a blue-ray player.

We'll see how many people are willing to fork out their money for such an expensive console.

IMO it is a great peice of kit and is priced accordingly and so too is the Xbox360 (which is why i'm getting that as well) but i wouldn't pay any more than £50 ($100) for the Wii.

Your opinion is just that, an opinion. A lot of people disagree with you, which is why the PS3 isn't selling very well at the moment.

We have a winner for our fanboy of the day award!

More seriously, it just wouldn't be a wise investment on either Take-Two or Sony's part. The controls would be awkward at best, and the market for console peripherals (keyboard and mouse) has always been a niche. Assuming everyone who wants a console Civ4 would purchase a keyboard and mouse would be like assuming everyone who purchasing a driving game will buy a steering wheel - not going to happen. Furthermore, how many people are really going to buy a game that's been out for over 18 months now on the PC? Anyone who wanted to play Civ4 has almost certainly already gotten it. I don't see the sales being high enough to cover development costs.

And for fun:

Your beloved PS3 doesn't seem to be doing too hot there, chief. ;) Now I don't care one iota who "wins" the console wars, but fanboyism is a plague befalling the Internet - and tweaking the noses of fanboys is just too much fun to pass up. :)

Civ II was on the PS1, and the controls worked just fine. Now you have even more buttons and analog controls instead of just the directional pad. I think the "controls being awkward" argument doesn't really carry much weight since it's perfectly feasible to play Civ games using a console controller.

No It should be released for the Xbox 360.

If it is to be released on a console, it should be the PS3. It is a technically superior machine.

And it's not made by Microsoft, which is always a plus, since M$ is the Devil.

For an epic game such as Civ IV, I can not see it being ported across to a console. For a start, too much reading of text on a screen that can be metres away will cause excessive eye strain.

But Pedai changed in Civ4 its font is huge and its link system is crappy. Civ3 flowed like wiki.

The Truth as I see fit: Civ4 will not work on console and never play on one. Civ5 on the PS3 will happen unless Microsoft buys the exclusive. Designers will make Civ5 with console in mind much like they made Civ4 ground up for MP. Taking advantage of processer and graphics engine but mainly the designers time and confidence by pushing ideas on a platform where they all know the end product runs on systems with identical capabilities. (Not a million unique setups to bend to-One reason for Civ4's high complaint %)

This new phase in the Civ leagcy will break it down for the new gen once and for all. Pedia will be small footnote format mybe expanded in the first printed version of the Civipedia. " (Also A players companion guide) It will bring new heights to performance. Possiblilties where up to 50 players or more online build on massive maps like world of Warhammer battle (charges may apply) Its trade system will be retooled to handle this and will be a big advertising push. The other Civ games (1,2 and 3) will be unlocable except 4 (CIv4's weak design will excluded it from functioning fast enough thus, its excluded).

(Yes the PC world will suffer but a tidy profit will still be made on this versions far superior modabilty options. The best thing will be Microsofts adaption to port all mods made on the PC's editer to the console for upload on itto muti-network.

The new Tekken will push sales for PS3 more then CIv5 will

whoes software doing think is running Civ 4. The reality is that if it can run on a console it can run on both. thats what the engineers say and regard their opinion far higher.

The PS3 (and the 360) has tons of potential yet to be harnessed.

:worship: :worship: He speaks the truth about both consoles, mayb you ppl out there hu have swallowed a bad dose of Wii propaganda should listen 2 this guy

I remember playing SimCity 2000 on the SNES as a very young boy. It was an awesome experience (great console too). The thought never occured to me that it would be easier on a PC at that time. The 'mouse' snapped about the screen very niftily and I was able to get a city of 10 million population by spamming archeologies. So I agree, Civ4 for one of these super-advanced consoles is probably very doable!

On consoles, no major modding will be possible. Perhaps some map making, but I don't think there will be some great mod like 'Fall from Heaven' on a console version of Civ IV. I think modding is one of the most important things about Civilization. And besides, controlling a strategy game with a controller? I tried playing Starcraft for the N64, SimCity for the SNES, and both controls sucked big time. Maybe it just needs a lot of getting-used-to, but I rather not have Civ ported to a console, since the money required for that could have been spended at making the PC version better.

Actually with the PS3 you can download mods and new content including new missions for games like Call of Duty 3 and such so i don't think your statement holds much weight, perhaps you should check that your assumptions are correct before you go saying them

Surely that's only officially released downloadable content? I can't see many fan-based mods being created for console games, certainly not on the level of say, Civ or Oblivion?

Civ4 is the quintessential PC game. I think it would be very hard if not impossible to create as sophisticated an interface, it would be weaker in multiplayer options, and finally it would be flat out just impossible to recreate the same 3rd party mod hooks (HOF mod, blue marble, etc) or to patch/upgrade/playbalance the AI over time, as the PC game.

This is why I voted "no" on this poll. I personally could care less if there is Civ4 on the PS3 (or any console), but I know the development reality is that resources spent on that effort means less resources spent on PC development. And last but not least anyone who has a PS3 and is interested in turn based strategy games almost certianly has a PC too, so you are going to get almost 0 new customer sales, the best you could hope for is to cannabilize your sales of the PC line.

Releasing Civ4 on the PS3, in summary, would be one of the stupidest business decision the developer could possibly make, IMO, and only bad long term consequences would result for the franchise.

No, there won't be any fan-based mods but there will be mods made by the games companies and in Oblivions case the add on Kinights of the Nine will be available for free on the PS3 as opposed 2 (from what i have heard) the 10 dollers you have 2 pay for the Xbox360 version. Which means that civ could also make mods in this way as well.

I paid thirty bucks for Warlords. I just can't see them giving away anything of value if they're charging thirty bucks for such a shoddy expansion. If the fans aren't doing it, it's not getting done.

BTW, the so-called "console wars" are really creepy. It's your distraction machine, not your lord and savior.

Well has anyone thought of a Keyboard that you connect to your ps3 specificly for the game, it might actually save time.
