Civ 4 on Gamespy

A while ago I played Civ 4 online at my brothers house using Gamespy. Gamespy automatically picked up the installed game and I was able to host / join games on the web.

I've just installed Civ 4 on my pc and installed Gamespy, but the gamespy software refuses to recognise my Civ 4 install despite me pointing to the folder its installed into.

Also, I checked on the gamespy website and there is no mention of civ 4 being supported by gamespy (despite its logo being all over the civ 4 packaging and game menus).

Can anyone tell me what's going on - am I going mad or have gamespy stopped supporting the game altogether - if so where can I play it online?

Start the game, select Multiplayer, select Internet Game... use your gamespy login (or create a new user). This will put you through to the lobby.

I've tried that, can't get it to work.

Someone said that I need to buy the Warlords expansion pack to play online - that Gamespy no longer works with the un-expanded game. Is this true?

No.

You need to create a new Gamespy login for Civ4, you can't use one that you have registered somewhere else.
