"Civ 4 Sucks!" A vain attepmt to address the many complaints.

hear,hear!

I think we'd all like to start 'a piece of our minds' thread.

VoiceOfReason - your thoughts were well expressed but its impossible to cover every situation. You are more or less right though becuase the game will be more or less to everyone's liking. Its just a few nitpicking things that I and others bring up because we are vainly trying to shape the make-up of the game - even this late in the cycle.

hclass, you've been around how long? Judging by your post count it's not been a very long time.

Now tell you what... Go do a SEARCH on "Warpstorm" ...

Warpstorm has been around a very long time, ...

So put your money where your mouth is and do a search ...
Some friendly advice, ...

I am sorry, I still can't believe him (unless he prove himself). Very sorry!

hclass, I dont think warpstorm has to prove himself to you or anyone for that matter, most people here belive him because he's gives us his honest opinions and states facts. Maybe you should have alittle faith in people and not pre-judge to quickly, same is true for Civ4!!!

I think you need to read again for what I don't believe him, be reminded that has nothing to do with his opinion or state of facts. You are too quickly in "pre-judge" me by not reading exactly what is going on ...

Anyway, still, unless he has something to tell (which is not in those existing previews), I don't believe him to have special contact with the Firaxis men and get answer which others can't, sorry, very very sorry :)

But alot of the complaints that are flying around are just downright silly, it's just nitpicking based on a few screenies and comments. Until we get the game on our machines, we really don't have any way of judging whether or not it's a good game, yet some people are already slamming it and calling it a piece of crap. They should be withholding their judgement until they've actually had a chance to try it out for themselves.

Personally I think it sounds promising, though I won't know that for sure either until I get it.

all these people crying all the time about what a bad game it will be are going to be the same ones buying it when the stores open. They were just born to cry about what they love.

Lol... I'm glad you guys sat through my boreing crap but I do have a point. H Class If your that afraid of shoddy workmanship then perhaps what you should really be busy with is reading the reviews which I'm sure there will be many of at the release date and then you'll be a good INFORMED consumer and not have to worry very much about any of what you mentioned. That was the point of this thread. There is way to much speculation going on and its all being fed by one thing that I find all to ironic; A desperate need for this game. And if one thing is missing from a screen shot or review people are throwing their hands in the air and saying its crap. I'm asking people to look at the big picture and genuinely ask has there been improvement in the series' development.

Correct again ! chalk one up for Arizona AGAIN !

Otherwise all those who are praising Civ4 all the while will join the cry when they later find Civ4 (bought) is not so good as expected.

Voice Of Reason chose a very appropriate name I think.

Why does everyone have to be so pessimistic?? Personally i try to be optimistic about the unknowns. Really, what a sad life to be negative all the time.

Thank you Meleager. To H Class all I can say is this your walls are impenatrable. You've built an arguement that is circular that can't be beat. You are ultimately unsatisfied. Your right the opptimist will be let down but quickly rcover because they "know" it will be fixed in good time, the pessimists will be pleasently surprised and the realist in us will see that its just a F***ing game. The fatalist will say that all this didn't amount to crap. In the end everyone is satisfied. But I have to ask... You liked Civ 3 right and in the end you enjoyed playing it and everything was cool right? Your going to buy the game or at least play with the idea that its worth the money or at least the time in trying it right? Don't worry about not knowing enough right now. You will later. Don't worry about getting it out of the box and finding it perfect because it probably won't be. If you do your setting your expectations up creating your own self fullfilling prophecy of "**** this game sucks". Relax all in good time you'll be having fun with a new game. And when you do I challange your ass to a duel... And I demand satisfaction. Goodnight all.

Voice of Reason, you have a point, so many complaints seem unnessacary, but these people are within their rights to complain, as are you. Each of us has a choice to turn off; If there is so much wrong with the game don't buy it; If you don't like the whinging posts, don't read them.

I will reserve my judgement until I have played the game, and despite not really being happy with Civ III, I will definately be giving Civ IV a chance. Smash has a very good point with regards to the quality of the boxed product as opposed to moding. I do not have enough time to play, let alone rewriting the software.

I'm sure everyone here agrees that they want Civ4 to be a good game before the first mods are released. I know I do.

In case you didn't know, Half-Life was considered a genre-defining game when it was released in 1998. Not very long after that, a mod called Counter-Strike improved on Half-Life's perfection.

What makes a game good or bad? It's how you compare it to other games. Let's suppose, for the sake of an argument, that Civ4 has been released, and everyone loves it. One year later, an excellent mod for Civ4 is released. Are you right in saying then that Firaxis did Civ4 totally wrong? That's up to you.

I'm on the side that says, "I hope Civ4 will be a great game, and I hope that some great mods will come too."

But if HL wasn't a good game, what are the chances that someone would make a good mod for it?

I think the answer is 42. :p What do you want me to say?

So you want proof lets see here, oh yeah.......Do you own Civ3C? If you do then open up Civ-content and look for watercolor terrian mod then look and the maker, its...... Warpstorm now that mod ----->("SHIPPED")<----- with Civ3C, and unless he somehow was able to break into Firaxis and load his mod into their game I think you can believe he was a Beta Tester on Civ3C!!!!

Come on, a beta tester has nothing to do with special contact with people in Firaxis. Why can't you understand the situation correctly? Think, think! (Look, warpstorm understands what I am up to), why can't you just catch my ball? Am I so tall?

Sorry, hclass, I'm not going to reveal any info (I may or may not have), but I do think I'll see if Barry wants to go out to lunch this week. ;)
