During any level in civilization four warlords, Scenerio or a random map, mods or no mods my game will crash to the desktop in the Medieval Era. I have followed advice of a few posts and have cleared my cache, but to no avail. When I play just the regular old Civilization 4, without the Warlords expasion pack the game has no problems and I can win with a space race victory, conquest or any other way I see fit. With Warlords I can never progress far into the game. I have included my DXDIAG file if it helps anyone.

I too experienced CTDs in Warlords until I increased the size of my virtual memory. Perhaps the upcoming patch will address the issue of the memory leak. You don't seem to have a lot of RAM. You might try to increase the size of your virtual memory (Start\Control Panel\System\Advanced\Performance Settings\Virtual Memory. Also, you might try shutting off the animations and/or using lower resolution graphics. I've found that some scenarios/mods just seem to crash more than others too so I stick to the smaller maps now.

If you reload a save before the crash, will the crash reoccur? Attach a save with instructions to generate a crash, e.g., "press Enter and the game crashes".

Well, with 2 GB RAM and a 3.5x RAM GB paging file I just experienced another CTD -- this time in CIV IV with Rhyes and Fall.

Alexman, who I think is a Firaxis engineer, has posted that CTDs occur sometimes when a city flips from culture. I'm going to try turning off the culture flipping option and see what this does. BTW, he also said that the upcoming patch should correct this bug.

Turned off culture flips and still got another CTD. Not going to bother uploading a save file as I loaded it and couldn't repeat the problem. Random bugs are a bear.

Also, until I activated the memsaver option, I would occasionally get a "crash" that actually minimized the CIV IV window. Not knowledgable enough about Windows to know what instruction is generated to do this.

Update: Finally turned off autosaves -- this has allowed me to run a game over 300 turns with no CTDs. I'd forgotten to do this after reinstalling CIV to my new computer. I'd tried to increase the interval between saves to 5 turns but still got CTDs. It seems that there's a problem with the autosave feature.

Autosaves=0

I do have a saved file in which roughly 10 or so turns it will crash. The file is a small map of Europe, so I don't think that the size of the map is the problem in this case. (Note: I ran the map with the revolution mod) I happen to know my ram is low. I have all of the graphic settings on low, no movies (they glitch anyway) and no animations and such. I have adjusted my virtual memory settings from 700 something to 1536. I have not checked if it fixes the problem.

Exactly how do you turn off autosaves, and I retested Warlords with my Virtual Memory as high as it lets it go, 1536, and it still crashed to the Desktop screen.

Look in your CIV IV\Warlords folder for CONFIG.INI. In it you will find many options. The number 1 will turn the option on and the number 0, off. The file can be opened in notepad or wordpad. Remember that CIV IV and Warlords have two separate .INI files. Search for "autosave" in the file.

I notice that you are playing a mod: I've found that crashes occur with much more frequency if a mod is used, some are worse than others. Check the mod forum for reference to a crash, perhaps the modders have come up with a patch for it.

You also might try uninstalling and reinstalling a clean version of CIV, first CIV IV then the 1.61 patch, then finally Warlords. I found that the game crashed fewer times after I uninstalled it, cleaned up the registry, then reinstalled.

I Will change the Config and see if it helps, I have not noticed much difference between the vanilla game and the revolution crashing wise. I reinstalled my whole game one week ago to no avail.
