Hello. i purchased a Legal Retail Version of Civilization V. when i installed it, it gave me steam error. so i installed Steam. now, Steam Does not recognize my game. so i added Game Manually by using Add Game option. Game was working fine. when i go to Tool to download Civ 5 SDK, i could not find it. i searched for it but still couldnot find it.

What is wrong with steam? please help me. is that because steam did not recognize my game?

Please i need help really fast!!!

"when i installed it, it gave me steam error. so i installed Steam."

That is weird. If it is a Steam game, you should install it through Steam, not the other way around.

- Where did you buy it from?
- What form did you get it in? Physical disk, digital download, just a CD key, etc.?

Can you post a screenshot of the original error? The one you got before you installed Steam

Hey there. my friend purchased this DVD from local Game Store for my Birthday. i didnt know that steam is needed to play Retail Version. when i launched Civ 5, i got error that steam link is not available( or something i really dont remember exactly.) so i installed Steam to play CIv 5. i thought when i will install Steam, Game will autometically will be there in games.(which is supposed to happen.) but there was none. so i manually added game to my games in steam. so when i start Civ now, either from steam or without steam, the game works fine. but i need SDK to create Mods. but i can not see it in Tools. is there any external Download link to SDK?

also, i am sorry i dont have screenshot of previus error as when i installed steam, it gone. so i dont have it now. also i cant reinstall my steam just for a SS because my internet very sucks. i updated(about 200 MB) from my brother's house(who lives in other state). also my friend who gave me DVD, has moved to China for 1 year. i could not ask him for Disk again too.(he said he needs disk for playing with some crack.) so thats the case now..

is there anything i can do now? i need SDK but why i can not find it?

Manually adding a game through Steam does nothing, really. It gives you access to the Steam overlay stuff so you can talk to friends, etc, but doesn't integrate account based things like achievements and workshop stuff for the modding. It can be a crude workaround when you run into certain problems but pretty sure it should not be the correct way to do it.

All the times when I have bought (physical) games to play them through Steam I did so by entering the serial number in Steam. Then they get added to my account and Steam itselfs downloads and installs them. I have never had to use physical disks when installing a Steam game.

This would be my first try: Check the disks, case, books, etc. for a printed serial key. (Don't post it here, obviously :) ). Read the fine print on the case. Does it say anything about requiring Steam or an internet connection?

Alternatively, I would advise to start over again. Uninstall everything, including Steam (if you dont use it for other games) and re-install Civ5 from your DVD. Take screenshots of any problems you run into and share them here so we can hopefully help you further.

I have never had to deal with a physical copy of Civ5 before, so I could be dead wrong. But this is how I would try to fix it if I were in your situation.

Thank you for that reply. as i said, i no longer have DVD of Civ 5 game as my friend take it with him to China. now there is no other way i can access Civ V SDK?

If you got the game working via Steam, you do not need the DVD to play it.
