Civ 5 Digital Copy or Disc Copy?

Civ 5 uses a PDF manual no matter which way you go. Unless you're a box collector, all buying physical does is make you need to store a box and disc.

I really hate how companies quote social responcibility and saving the environment when its clear they are actually just cutting costs. What use is a PDF manual to me when i want to read it while playing the game, or on the loo.

I'd gladly pay extra for a paper manual. Infact if someone wants to start binding and selling the manual ill queue for a copy.

This was the reason for me to buy a hard copy, now its just cost... £5 more for steam copy. hmm..

That'll be illegal to bind it and sell it.

YOu can only play the same copy of civ V one machine. You can install it on many machines but can't play it on the both machines at the same time.

You didn't read my post I guess. What you are saying is wrong, you can play Civ5 on how many machines you want at the same time. The restriction is on the Steam account, not on the game. Account sharing is forbidden, so with 1 account you can't play while your wife/son/friend plays, but you can launch how many games you want if it's only you playing.

Sorry wasn't clear enough. Should have mention that you can only have one active copy of the game running per account.

Only if its you playing, which lets be honhest, it wouldnt ^^

It doesn't matter, I was replying to the guy who it was not allowed to talk about this on the forums because it's illegal, which is wrong. Giving instructions about running 2 games of Civ5 at the same time doesn't break any EULA and can therefore be talked about in this forum.

For all I care, people could be launching 2 games of Civ5, one for playing the game and one for having the civilopedia ready on the second monitor :D

Or maybe I want to emulate Napoleon and win 5 Civ games at the same time

You can have multiple copies of the game running from just 1 account, as long as it's only you playing. The EULA just says that account sharing is forbidden.

As for the pre-order, on Steam anyway you will get £10 discount, and a bonus cradle of the civilisation map, (however all of those maps can be brought as DLC later on too).

As far as I know the game is $60 on both Steam and D2D. Where is the $10 discount?

Good enough choice, pre-ordering it would be cheaper and get you a free map, the only problem is D2D doesn't allow pre-loading so you won't be able to download the game till release day.

I was just on D2D and it did have an option for pre-loading.

What is a pre-order speech?

When you walk into a store like EB or Gamestop and want to buy a new game. Instead of getting a copy of said new game, they give you a speech about how they don't have any unless you pre-ordered.

Because it's not like its a games store or something. :P

I got the pre-order speech even when they did have extra copies for non pre-orders. I think the stores get awards and stuff for having the most pre-orders so I think thats why you get the speech.

When you buy the game from D2D you get a Steam activation key. You then use that in when running Steam to authorize Civ 5 in Steam. Then you can pre-load and play on the release date. After you enter the key there it doesn't matter where you bought the game.

I have OCD

Obsessive Collector's Disorder.

I only buy digital copies if its the only route. Therefore, I'm getting a CD. Plus, I get a Roman World scenario with my Gamestop preorder, so its a win no matter what for me!
