Hello, this is the first game that I have purchased that involved using Steam. I purchased the retail version, and when I installed it, it automatically added it to my Son's Steam account. I guess it was because it was up and running at the time of the installation? Anyways, once I realized the mistake, I created my own account and tried to activate Civ 5 on my account. Surprise, it says that I can't because it is already activated under another account. I contacted Steam to fix the problem, but have not heard anything back. I have this $50 game sitting on my desk, and can't even play it. I can't believe that I purchased a retail version of the game and it is only good for 1 player on 1 computer. Is there any fix for this? I would rather not use Steam at all, and simply have it installed on my one PC.

Oddly enoguh this is the second time someone has posted with the exact same problem, son's account and all.

Steam support may resolve it, it will take a few days or so for them to reply/fix it, they aren't known for their speed.

You have an unlimited installation limit but yes it will be tied to only one account. You will also have to run Steam to run the game, but you do not need to be online to play.
From Steam support on how to run in offline mode if you wish/need to/its worth doing this anyways in case your internet goes down:
