Hello there. I hate to make my debut to this forum with a problem but me and my buddy have been trying to fix this problem for a week with no progress.
All the issues we find are either not exactly the same as ours or their answers did not work.
Our system information:
We both have new computers. Laptops, high end but not infallable. He has windows 8 and I windows 10. (I did try running the game on compatibility mode for windows 8)
We're using wireless internet and we are both able to run games like Rome 2 on high graphics settings without problems.
It's an Acer and an Asus. It's late so I will provide extra details if asked.
Our problem:
We're trying to play civilization 5. We're using the same router in the same house.
When we try lan we don't see each others servers and are both unable to invite each other via steam.
So we use internet. It worked for a bit at first. Then the disconnections started occurring.
Now it's gotten to the point that 5 seconds after the hosted game starts the connection drops. I lose connection to the internet most of the time when I alt tab out of there. We've tried small maps and dropping graphics to no avail.
What we've tried:
We've tried disabling firewall and our anti virus programs.
We've tried verifying game caches.
We've tried deleting the cache in the documents (hope you get what I mean)
We've tried restarting.
We've tried the properties on the network and sharing center and checking and unchecking all the things.
(will explain if you ask.)
We've tried using the command prompt and entering "NET STOP SharedAccess"
Nothing works. The game just shuts off my connection and we can't see each other on local.
Would appreciate some help. Perhaps our IP's are the same or are renewing for some weird reason but that's one of the threads I found that didn't have an explanation on how to fix. Anyone willing to help?
Much appreciated: Vktor
