Hello. First post here. I tried the search feature to no avail and checked through the most recent posts and also no luck.

My questions is this...I cannot get Civ 5 to run at 1920X1080.

My monitor is an HDTV 36 inch. My gpu is a Radeon HD 5870. It has an HDMI out on it so I took my HDMI cord ran it from the gpu to the HDTV.

Now on my desktop I have the reso set to 1360X768 because if I got to 1920X1080 the screen looks really fuzzy and the font is hard to read.

However when I play newer games (Starcraft 2, Singularity to name a couple) in the graphics options I can set it to 1920X1080 and the input on my screen switches and says it's now in 1080p and the difference is noticeable. Images look better, font looks more crisp and is the perfect size for me to read.

When I go into Civ 5's options the largest it allows me to choose is 1360X768. So what I tried doing was exiting the game and steam completely. Changing reso on the desktop to 1920X1080 then logging back in hoping that would allow me to set it to that reso in game. No luck there either.

Anyone have any ideas? If you need any information about my system please ask. Windows 7 64 bit btw.

Thanks!

Just got back from lunch break and tried something new. Went into my documents, my games, and there is a graphics configuration file where I can change the X reso and the Y reso. They were set to 1360X768. So I hoped changing those to 1920X1080 and saving it would fix it but no luck.

I'm having an issue with my 1920 x 1080 working correctly also. I have an ATI 4870 1gb. Are you trying DX10/11 mode or DX9? Because on DX9, it works totally fine for me. But when I set it to DX10/11, it will load kind in-game with black bars around the screen and not at its actual resolution. And what seems to be happening is that the Civ V exe file is not acknowleding the fact that I have to set my ATI CCC overscan setting up all the way for my 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz (aka, 1080p) to completely fill the screen and look how it should. And if I alt+tab out of Civ V and open up the CCC, and re-click the overscan setting, it adjusts on the fly and looks how it should. I then play it as normal, but obviously this isn't something I should have to do and as I said the DX9 exe works totally fine. I'm hoping it gets addressed in a patch, hopefully it's a known issue.

Well if it was a known issue I really think there would be a lot more people screaming about it. Google search brings up jack and that is pretty rare.

And the drop off from DX 11 to DX 9 is way too much for me to sacrifice.

Sorry I am a little confused by this;

"iv V exe file is not acknowleding the fact that I have to set my ATI CCC overscan setting up all the way for my 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz (aka, 1080p) to completely fill the screen and look how it should. Are you telling me that you can play it in 1920 x 1080 by doing this? If so could you try and post the steps a bit more clearer. Just not following you, sorry.

Thanks!

You're referring to the WindowResX and WindowResY settings? Those are for running the game in Windowed Mode, not Fullscreen.

Yeah I've since learned that and set them back to normal. Still can't figure anything out.

I run on 1080p through an HDMI lead to an HD TV (32") using an ATI 5800 series card on DX11. The game auto detected the resolution I was using. The screen doesn't get smaller and any gaps round the edge are small and no larger than normal. I haven't played about with overscan settings - haven't found that yet.
