Hi nerds!

I have been playing this franchise since Civ 2 was released. Thousands of hours, if not more.
3 was an amazing upgrade over 2.
4 was an amazing upgrade over 3.
The modding community created absolutely amazing mods for 4 (such as Rise of Mankind; Chronicles of Mankind, etc.), which were amazing upgrades over the base game.

Then Civ 5 came out and like the clone of Ripley it shrieked "Kiilll, meee", and I uninstalled it to put it out of its misery. An outrageous downgrade in every single way. It was clearly aimed at an audience -10, -30 IQ points below the audience of the previous games.
Then Civ 6 even went with the cartoon graphics to cater to the children of said rocketsurgeons.

"Maybe the developers will get proper leadership and a proper vision for the next game."
I sighed dejectedly.

Well, 7 is almost here, and it promises to be the worst game in the series (for anyone that does not eat crayon on a regular basis). It does not look like even modders could salvage it. After 15 years of failure after failure, maybe it is time to bury the Civilization franchise forever, and mail a bag of horsehockey to Sid Meier.

Good luck for you!

I don't eat crayon on a regular basis, and it looks to me to be the most refreshing entry since civ 3. Looking very much forward to playing it myself.

I thought with the post-launch content to civ VI, I would be done with the franchise. Seems like I was wrong. I hope that it's the same for you for Civiliz8n.

Good thing for you: civ IV is still there to play, if you like to do so. While you wait until 2034 for the next one :D

If we go for the aesthetics of the series I agree.
But Civilization isn't about graphics. I think the gameplay is the thing you played all these for. You know. Picking up the tech. Getting that fancy new unit. And watching ugly faces making silly demands.

As someone who is far from 100% on board with the upcoming launch state of Civ7: you’ll need a few arguments to back up your position and claims, if you want people here to argue with you in good faith. As of now, I’d rather have a discussion with someone who eats crayons but can explain their rationale.
