I saw the Civ boardgame for the first time the other day.I had heard that there was going to be a boardgame but had never heard about its release.Has anyone played it?Is it anything like the comp game?Over here in Oz it is $130 ish,so it'll be a little while till I get my hands on it,but I will.

If it is by Avalon Hill, it has nothing to do with Sid Meier. Avalon Hill owns the rights to the board game civilization, and even made a pc game of it. It's a classic board game that has been out a very long time, and is unrelated and distinct from what Sid Meier has done.

Hehe, notice I said in my post "If it is made by Avalon Hill...." . I wasn't saying there isn't a civ3 boardgame, just that not all Civilization boardgames are related to this :)

$130  I'd buy Conquest before I'd buy that!

Damn Skippy!

But that's Ausie money, that's only worth like $15.:p

What is the point of a board game if you have a game on your computer? I am sure they don't have the advanced stuff like corruption and road building and goverment and it would be hard to manage city improvements and all that fun stuff. And for 130$. I could by many, many computer games for that.

Its made by Eagle Games

What's the point? To sit around a table, eat pretzels, drink beer, and conquer the world. That's the point. Some of us like to play games face to face with our opponents. Computer games just aren't the same.

I paid about $40 for the Eagle version. I don't remember how much I paid for the Avalon Hill version (which is very different, but in a lot of wys better). Thet's too long ago.

The version by Eagle games is quite fun. Can be described as a combination of Risk, Axis and Allies and a dash of Diplomacy. Takes a while to play through though (8-12 hours).

I found Eagle's in need of a patch. It suffers from a serious case "The Rich Get Richer" (even more than the computer game). This is becuase most players will have to license their war techs from the front-runner. This makes him richer and if you try to gang up on him you will, in effec,t have to buy your units from him.

I like their Attack! better.
