I have civ 3 complete loaded on to home computers, they both work fine in single player mode. when I try to host or join a multiplayer game the one computer just dumps me back out to desktop. No message or anything just black screen....then desktop. doesn't matter if I host or join. My second computer however can at least get to the multiplayer setup. I have reloaded 2 times. any help in this area would be nice.

If you are trying to play LAN don't use wireless. You have to wire into the network to establish communication

I got exactly the same error.... I posted a request for help on this forum a while back but no one seems to know what the problem is. What firewall are you using?
