Civ I GOTM

Ok, here's the deal. I was reading the civ2 GOTM boards and saw a thread where someone wanted a ToT GOTM. Matrix told them that they could make one and run it themselves on these forums. I would like to do this with Civ1. If you are interested, please post here. If you need, we could make it a GOTQ(Game on the Quarter). I think this would help us be innovative in our gameplay and might even increase the membership and liveliness of this forum. If you guys are interested let me know. I would post the game on this forum and we could post our results on a Spoiler thread. The GOTM would not be "official" but it would be really fun. Please post here if you would play it. If not, I guess this idea will join many others on the long list of bad ideas.

Good idea Gonzo! I'm in, I wanna know how bad I really am in playing Civ compared to all the others out there still playing.....
Anyway, you got to consider which version of Civ1 you want to play with, I recommend WinCiv (just because I play that version..... )

Well, I play Civ1 more than Civ2. Not playing Civ3 at all... so...

Ok, it looks like we got 3 people. I still want to get a few more. CivI games dont take as long as Civ2 or Civ3 games so hopefully, more people will post their intention to play here. I will probably post the first save game on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd of this month. I will pick a civ at random and same with land. I will probably make it one of the middle difficulty levels. Not too easy, not too hard...

Well, I am certainly looking forward to it. If no more people post I will still post the game just to see how many people will play it. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you guys

Yeah, we will play with WinCiv. If you only have the DOS version I would suggest getting WinCiv because it is really cheap and we would like you to play.

But if you got enough participants it might become official.

Watch out Matrix, someday I might just hold you to that.....

Actually the Win version was released after the MAc version and has the same graphics

I don't know But since civ2 for mac and PC do have the same save format, I guess that should be the same

My top score once was 118%, of course this is no guarantee that I will do good in the upcoming GOTM...... What's your top score?

I don't know. I never pay attention to score. Actually I quit the game just after the Alpha Centauri sequence started. So I even skip it...

I haven't seen the Alpha Centauri sequence that much either lately, at higher levels it's almost impossible to set up a nice civilization which can build spaceships. So in order to stop the attacks I just kill all the other civs....

When I first suggested the idea of a Game of the Month for CivII a year ago (and Matrix very kindly offered to adminster it), there was no chance of starting a CivI GOTM. There was very little CivI activity on CFC then and the total number of members was just 1/10th of what it is now. Things seem to have changed so let's give it a try.

What about early finishing bonus? Shall we use a formula such as is used elsewhere?

As for high scores, I honestly can't remember my CivI best. (I know my CivII best is 406%.) My wife plays CivI more than I do - she's playing next to me right now - and her best score is 268%.

To stormerne: I have found a utility that will allow me to convert Winciv games to DOSCiv games. I am not sure if it works because I have not tested it. I will try to test it tonight and post a file for DOS in the main thread.

I hope we do use the early finish bonus gonzo -- I've just played through the DOS GOTM1 and I decided to launch earlier rather than conquer the remaining civs! (That gives me a 1715 landing date but a low Civ score.)
