Civ I vets are not a bunch of crusties. We're a tough bunch to crack, and the hard-core of the Civ World.
Anyone out there agree with me?

Blitz.

Thanks,

The main reason I wrote this is because of the survey I read yesterday, "who used to play Civ I" and that sort of thing. There was a comment expressing surprise that so many people responded yes.
I just feel that the old guard of the Civ World still rock, and are probably the hard core because they're still hanging on, addicted to each new version.

This just shows the power of the game, and of strategy games generally, which are more addictive than cocaine to people with a military/historical/political mind.

When Civ I came out, I used to get withdrawl symptons when I was too busy to go on it!

Sad, maybe. But maybe not.

What is the cardboard version I've been hearing about? Is this for real?

I'm not on CivNet, much to my chagrin.

CivNet vets are probably razor sharp from playing against people, and not the limited AI. I am looking forward to meeting a few human opponents on the battlefield....

However, I retain with pride the fact that I cut my teeth in the Civ I arena. Veterans Forever!!

I never got the same withdraw when I couldn't play Civ 2 compared to the suffering I went through when I couldn't get a game of Civ 1 in.

So even though the phalanx could kill the battleship it was (or must be) a better game than Civ 2 in order to instill all the suffering. Or would it be evil?

i used to have a special feeling when palying civ 1, or watching my brother play it. i never get the smae feeling in civ 2. it thingk it may be due to the better graphics. sometimes, when i daydream about civ1 i get the feeling

. we need a civ 1 supportt group

i think they suck. im talking about compared to civ1

. one can not, i think, get the same satisfaction out of playing civ 2 than numero uno

I think my opinions are fairly widely known. I've been playins civilization so long that for a while I had to stop because I couldn't lose anymore and I was becoming bored... that problem is solved now of course. I'm bragging again... oh well.

Yeah the support group would be a good idea.

"Hi, my name is Greg and I can't stop playing civilization 1"

"Hi, Greg."

About graphics on civ2... yes they do suck. It is still squares, only the made it look all neat by making it isometric... wow! Huge improvement. It's amazing how they can lower the readability of the map so much without improving the gameplay.

Hi, my name is Blitz and I'm a civ addict. I get a lot of trouble from my family and girlfriend for my addiction, and they try to help me give up.

They don't understand though - I don't want to give up.

Leave me alone with my addiction. It's better than the real World...

Isn't it?

Anyone else have cold turkey on thanksgiving?

H*** YEAH!

The only true civ players are those who have known the pain of loseing a battleship to a phalanx. People should realise that civ one was a stroke of genius, a gift to the gaming world from the muses, it should be in a museam. Civ 2, while a great game, pales in comparison (not the mention the fact that the terrian is annoying as f***). I bet in 10 years most of the brightest minds will credit some of their intelegence to skills they gained playing rome on 614k a day. I bet at least that most of the top ladder people today got their start on civ 1.

Hey, finally I'm quite normal after all. I've switched back to Civ 1 months ago and I don't really miss civ2. Ok, that's good to see there are still some civ1 addicted.
And concerning Civ2 graphics, yes they stink. I might be considered prehistoric but... I LOVE 2d graphic, not isometric. How many times I got confused while moving my Civ2 units, just because the north was rather "north-west" on the map

Anyway, I think Civ1 is definitely THE game of the games. I don't know any other game which kept me stuck on my chair 11 hours (without drinking, eating, going to the John...). And which I still play 10 after its first release!
