Hi all,
I have Civ III: Complete on Steam and am trying to get it running on my Acer Aspire One. It's running Windows XP Home, 1GB RAM. I believe the problem is with the screen resolution, which on the Acer is 1024x600.

I've fiddled with the Conquests.ini and put in the KeepRes=1 option, but no luck.

Any one have any experience of getting this running on the Aspire One, or know how to get Civ III running in 800x600 or 1024x600 mode.

Thanks

Yep, the resolution is the problem. Civ3 requires a minimum resolution of 1024x768 in order to run.

The only way I can think of that you could get it to work is if your laptop has a mode where it can simulate higher resolutions. My ancient 1996 HP laptop, which was 640x480, could do this for up to 1024x768. How it worked is that it "displayed" 1024x768 - but only 640x480 of it was visible at once. To see the rest, you had to scroll to the end of the screen - then the nonvisible part of the screen in that direction would become visible.

This isn't an ideal option obviously, and having screen scrolling and Civ scrolling would probably be right odd. And I don't know if it's a feature on modern low-resolution laptops at all. But it's the only thing I can think of that might work.

Thanks Quintillus, the system supports 1024x768 (and higher) as you describe. However, Civ III is still not working. I tried with and without the KeepRes flag, but no luck.
