Although there are many fantastic gameplay improvements to CivIV, I find it dificult to continue playing because of the graphics. I am partially colour-blind and I find it difficult to easily distinguish the units from the terrain or city. I also have trouble telling the difference between units. Everything is a blur. In previous versions the contrast between was much better.

Anyone experiencing similar troubles?

Have you tried messing with the contrast options on your monitor?

hmm, im sorry your getting what must be a very frustrating problem with the game munchkin.
if its okay to ask the stupid questions first....have you checked/shown your game to someone you know who isnt having any problems with the screen?
is the resolution set okay, and are you using the zoom in/zoom out button okay?
stupid questions aside. im sure there must be some way for u to see the units properly...there are some fantastic mods/skins out there, i wonder if anyone knows of any that might be of use to you....
the thing is though, the reason i asked the stupid questions first is..the colour dont seem to be tooo different between civ2-3-4.i dont know why it would necessarily affect you more...there is the 3D difference of course, but in colour perception, same old same old....is your civ4 fully patched up and you have your graphic card with the latest drivers too?
again, apologies for the stupid questions.

Ah that reminds me of a problem i had in civilisation call to power.... there were two very similarly coloured races and i would accidently attack the wrong unit and cause a war. Unlike civilisation, civ call to power did not have any declare war request popup, it just went and did it!!

In another game, Galactic civilisations DL there are like 5 different races that all look red on the minimap, it is very frustrating indeed. (drengin, dreadlords, drath, thalans and yor)

Edit: Oh and several minor races that are red as well just to add insult to injury

No, there's nothing wrong with my screen. (Although I guess I could mess around with the colour profiles) It's just one of those red-green things. I think the 3D might contribute to it; all those gradients.

I too am partially color blind but I can't say I have had any issues with Civ 4. In Civ 3 I had some color clashes with civ boarder color and I recall a color blind option of some sort. No such thing in Civ 4, but I also don't have troubles with civ colors like I did before.

Are your graphic set to maximum resolution in game? Perhaps they are set to low?

Does your monitor have a setting to change the colors around? Like a menu with three sliders for Red, green, and blue? Messing with those might help a little.

No, but it does have a button labeled FPM which, when pressed, makes the colours more distinguishable. Interesting.

Strangely enough, this button must be pressed every time the monitor is turned on.
