Has anyone tried holding a Civ IV LAN party? Either privately or at a LAN-gaming parlor...of course the length of a full Civ game is a challenge, but on the other hand backstabbing someone who's sitting in the same room is special fun in any game.

Civ IV's multiplayer play is really very good when it isn't having all the technical glitches that are being reported widely here. In my particular case I can play locally on my house's 2-computer LAN and it's a blast; unfortunately, online play is completely broken for us no matter how many fixes suggested here are tried. Maybe LAN parties are a solution?

Actually I even know a place in my area that might host such...any Chicago-area Civ addicts here who'd like to give it a try?

LAN based MP games are a real blast

setting up the teams at the start can make for some really interesting games

we have done all humans on 1 team..all AI on another..LOL talk about utter and total warfare

We had a 8 player civ4 lan party with friends maybe a month ago. It took some time to get over all the technical glitches (we started 6 hours later than planned :D). Anyways.. We played two looong sessions, but in the end my friends just got bored once 3/8 civs had been destroyed and I was pretty much the clear winner

But it sure was fun.. too bad it's very hard to find a time when everyone is free to play. I'll probably have to wait untill next christmas for all my friends to be on holiday at the same time again
