CIV IV MTDG Forum

I just asked to join team Epsilon.
:goodjob:

I'm playing my 3rd Civ4 PBEM with a friend, so I'm starting to get the hang of it... but I've still got a ton to learn.
This game will stay my priority - but it'll be fun to see what we can get going on Civ4!

I'm glad at least one of us has the game!

I should say, that this game will be my priority, too. I'm joining the cIV game to learn about the game before it comes out on mac. I think the earliest date I've come across is June. But before then, we have to get a new computer. And the good news is, Stacey may let us get one within a week or so! If we do, it'll be the first time I've ever owned a new, up-to-date computer.... fianlly entering the 21st century :)

I just sent an email off to some guys I work with. I bring this up because I think that General_W could make a pretty great entry for the Announcement Contest, and this email may be a place to jump off from:

Pete's lame email said:
The first cIV multiteam game is starting up, and I thought you'd be interested in checking it out. You don't have to have the game, and you don't have to know how to play it. All the important stuff is posted in screenshots by the turnplayer. You will learn a tremendous amount just by following along in the discussions; if you are bold, you'll be one of the decision makers. You can participate as much or as little as you like - but based on my own experience with the civ3 MTDG, it's really crazy addictive.

Turns tend to go at about 1 every other day, so there's plenty of time for analysis of every single unit move, citizen move, worker task, and micromanagement adjustment. You can always join and then stop following along, so there's no reason not to sign up. It really has changed my appreciation for the game: It's great on its own, but when you add the dynamics of playing against 100 other human on 4 other teams it becomes something else entirely.

notice how I didn't call it a 'demo game'? That's because I find the term to be pretty inappropriate. Not only is it misleading people to think it's just a short little demonstration game [as I did when I first saw the term], but it's also not even a democracy, depending on how your team functions! If it were up to me, I'd call these games "MultiTeam Games", and leave off the "demo" entirely.

I encourage everyone to abandon team epsilon and let GA randomly asign you. We've had the expierence of playing together, why repeat it? let's make new friends, instead of sticking to old ones. besides, maybe other memebers will point out a blind spot we seem to have.

Ybbor's has a good suggestion here. As much as I enjoy playing this game with everyone here, I will regret passing up the chance to meet new players in the cIV game if Epsilon is only MIA players.

Won't it be a hoot to play against eachother? I think it will be :)

Don't know ... I for one am very comfortable with MIA ... and would like to stick with a majority of players who play in our style ...

Our numbers will certainly be built up by others ... I would find it frustrating to be in a team where the level of reporting is inferior ... KISS would be fun .. but it soon became evident that many menbers (active) were not fully updated.

Also my recent experience with a dickhead turn taker in the cIV Demogame came to moderator intervention as he tried to tell me that while everyone was equal, some (who were active in early rule development) were owed extra respect and therefore were more equal than others  ... this resulted from a simple question as to where I could find screenies and turn information ... his reply was basically I can't be bothered go find it out yourself you lazy bastard :shakehead

I don't want to go through that again ... so I'll stick with Epsilon and see who joins :salute: ... and those who are tuned into our way of playing should pick this team also ... I like what you wrote Peter

Go team Epsilon :salute: ... and to those who join another team, maybe I'll be offering you the Deal of the Century

To join up ... you need more than just express interest in the threads ... you also need to officially request entry Group Membership

I've joined randomly. And I play against my brother so I have had some multiplayer experience.

And I want to have the opportunity to kill you if you name your workers after yourselves...

I have been trying to avoid the Civ4 MTDG, but I still find myself lurking there occasionally. I really don't have time for it. I know people will tell me I don't have to devote as much time to it as I've devoted to this game, but unfortunately, I know my personality - if I sign up, I will be as compulsive about that as I am about almost everything else, and I'm not sure I can afford to do that right now.

For now at least, I don't intend to play in the Civ 4 MTDG at all.
