I haven't played Civ 4 in a bit. I have Warlords but have not installed it yet. What do you guys recommend?

Civ 4 or Civ 4 + Warlords?

Also, what would be a good modpack to use? I don't want anything that changes the game much, just improves/balances the original.

Thanks

Warlords of course :D More units, more wonders, more buildings, more Civs, whats not to like?

I don't use any mods except graphic ones so i can't comment on those.

Can you do everything in Warlords that you can do in Stock Civ 4? I ask because I'm completely new to the Civ series, and am learning regular Civ 4, but own Warlords, and don't want to get in over my head if it's largely different.

Civ IV + Warlords + Warlords patch. I don't use any mods (maps and BetterAI aside) so I can't judge them, but that, while not perfect, is quite well balanced.

Amra's Modpack
ViSa's Modpack
CiV Gold
Rhye's Rise and Fall of Civilization
Total Realism

are the type of modpacks I think you're looking for.

I think you'd be better off installing Warlords (and its most recent patch) and learning to play with it.

The main reason is that most of the players on this board, where you're looking for advice, assume you're playing with the expansion pack. Even if you clearly state you're playing with vanilla Civ IV when you ask your question, most players will forget or not notice and assume you're playing Warlords.

Beyond that, I find the game is more balanced, with more interesting options and more fun, with the expansion pack.
