Sorry to clutter up this section with such a wee thread.

Does anyone know how to get that "shine" on their civilization symbol/logo or at least an approximation thereof? I've noticed a number of mods have been able to replicate it but I can't figure out how to do it myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;)

It's not something that's done in-game but to the DDS-file. There're lots of tutorials for this for Photoshop and probably a few for Gimp. I'm sure you can get really advanced but it's essentially just an inner glow on a circle then that extra shine is another circle offset to the top of the original circle with a gradient background going from white to transparent.

I'd have to see an example to give you a hint there. But it is generally accomplished by either layer effectcs or through layers.

I do not suggest anyone, specially anyone beginning to work on their logo, to use them at all. The effects can look too amateurish (same goes for lens flares, explosions, pixelated images, bevel and emboss and reflections).

And of course, a well selected font, well placed and well spaced in relation with other logos can go a long way (no amount of bling or glowing crap can help a poor font choise).

hope that helped.

Thanks to both of you. Helped me get a handle on the effects and reminded me to keep the flashy stuff under control. :)
