There's something funny going on. Sometimes "Please Wait" comes up when I still have units to move, and sometimes it seems like I have auto-end turn on when I don't.

yup...that is kind of what Ranos was trying to explain. If you end your turn but still have some units to move it will go to "Please Wait" breifly and then go to the unit/units that need orders, however, in this instance, the moment you are done giving your last order it will auto-end (kind of) your turn. Technically it is not auto end because you did hit the end turn button but it was just giving you the opportunity to give orders to units needing orders before fully ending you trun. That is why it sometimes seems like auto-end is on but if you watch the timing and occurance of this that is not what is really happening.

Ok, so the error is that it says "Please Wait" when it should say please do something. It seems wrong that the "end turn" button comes up when you have moves to make, too.

Sometimes I do have auto-end on and that seems to be bugged in the latest patch because now I don't get the opportunity for my cities to fire before the turn ends. Having auto-end on during a war is crazy, but this applies when barbs are outside my city.

Yes, if you still have a unit that has move(s) left, and you press "next turn", it'll show "please wait" but not actually start processing turns. What I do is I just press "c" to go to the unit that's waiting for command. After you issue an order, the game will proceed to the next turn.
