After 60+ hours of playing I've just finished my first game of V (mainly because boredom causes me to quit by medieval in most games) and was somewhat unimpressed (read: highly disappointed) at how empty I felt after it ended. I thought to myself: what if there was a zombie mode available for V?

Here's how it works. After you win, you can choose to play on for the zombie mode. The zombie civilization has invisible cities (which you can't access) outside the borders. They will send settlers (maybe this is a bit OP) and armies over to colonize your lands and basically destroy your civilization. They have several advantages:

1. Full view of your territory (i.e. no fog of war) <- not sure about this one.
2. ALL of the base abilities, UAs, UBs, and UUs of EVERY Civ in the game (except DLC)
3. Production/happiness advantages as per the difficulty level.
4. A sickly green color scheme which will distract you.
5. Zombies have all techs.

When you choose to play zombie mode:

1. Grace period of say 80 turns in Marathon to prepare.
2. They start coming from one direction but eventually expand and will attack from all directions (360 degrees).
3. They do not necessarily go for war right away. You can be at hostile peace with them for a while so that both sides can prepare for war.
4. Both sides can now have city states as allies. CSs also become more dominant and important; they actively support you or the zombies in the war (they get production/gold bonuses as well.).

Of course, the zombies have many advantages and can not be defeated. In other words, YOU WILL DIE. The question is how long you can survive...

Whaddya think? I am making a mod for this; ideas and feedback are appreciated

Sounds interesting. A few ideas that may or may not fit with your ideas:

Start with the largest city in your civ being infected. Infected city is immediately razed and spawns a number of zombie units equal to half (rounded up) the former population of the city.

Every tun thereafter, a random city is converted to zombies.

Zombie units are weak for late-game units (15 strength say), but need to be strong enough to do a point of damage to most units.

Any unit damaged by a zombie unit becomes a zombie unit, regardless of whether it wins or loses. The unit disappears and is replaces by 1, 2 or 3 zombie units. This avoids you having silly things like zombie bombers and such.

Any city attacked by a zombie unit loses 2 population and spawns 1 zombie unit. Zombie units take no damage from cities.

Any tile that a zombie unit moves onto is automatically pillaged at no movement cost.

Challenge is to kill all the zombies. Since cities continue to be converted throughout the game, you need to survive until civilization is completely destroyed and then it's your last few units against the hoards.

Could be silly fun.

size 2 citys dont "convert" into zombies, making fringe citys in desserts and tundra areas the last bastion of humanity

so many opportunities!! would be cool if it could be made to be a trigger event! and as a way to finish a "normal" ongoing game

sounds very cool and could be a lot of fun

I appreciate your reponses but not so sure about Wurst's idea about random infection...it seems kind of random to me. Suppose you are planning a tactical and strategic defense when one of your core cities gets infected by random bad luck - very frustrating and annoying.

The idea about dead units becoming infected is an interesting idea I have been mulling over. Seems kinda OP and discourages the use of highly promoted units as if they are lost the enemy gains a powerful unit.

I do like Wurst's idea of zombie pillaging. It may be a bit OP though, so I'll think.

And by the way, do any of you know how to change the color scheme of a Civ? Can't find it anywhere...

What!?Thats a bad idea...You should want zombies in real life.Fast ones:)They will catch people and eat them alive. So sweet:)

I like the concept but don't like the undead. IMHO

Can you change it to:
some kind of Dark Empire[in mediaval] of Extraterrestial[Modern]?
Also, knowing all tech is too much.

This game bored me, any modding is very VERY appreciated.

Then how much tech should I give it?

It would be unfair to give zombies the same amount of tech as humans, as then it removes the rewards of playing well and having lots of beakers i.e. if you play good or bad and have less or more techs then it won't make a difference as the zombies have the same as you.

Dark Empire? You mean have a zombie mode in the middle of the game? Hmm...I guess it means the regular empires have to settle their differences to defeat the zombie invasion, something the diplo AI can't handle

Not so sweet when you're the one they're eating.:crazyeye:
