[R&F] CIV VI: best moments and nostalgia from previous CIV IV and CIV V.

What do you think is the best CIV in the series?

Civ IV made domestic management (like corruption costs, government switches, chopping out wonders that were incredibly powerful compared to those in V and VI) fun, diplomacy meaningful (AI was an actual threat, and potential trades even without allowing tech trades were far more varied), and had tons of official scenarios of content ranging from a tactical zombie fight to World War II.

V and VI have visual polish but both UIs are lacking, and while their music for the Civs is better, I preferred the background music of IV more. VI has the weird issue of constantly hearing other civs' music, whereas in V that only happened if the other civs warred on you.

VI also suffers from arguably the worst Civilopedia in history, lack of hall of fame, and this awful "plasticky" aesthetic in its iconography and screen backgrounds which smells too toyish and dumbed down (even if the game itself is not).

VI also suffers from awful leader backgrounds and introductions. An eight year old on a history project could write better text for the Aztec introduction in VI. At least in V you got a real sense of history from most of the leader introductions (whether talking about Sejong's innovations and care for his people or Mongolia's vast conquests). I don't think V was necessarily better than VI, but it was certainly more atmospheric and drew on its inspiration from history more. Meanwhile VI has Pericles who looks like Solon, Trajan who looks like Julius Caesar from Asterix, and Alexander who looks like a Californian surfer with a botched nose job. Definitely among the worst leader appearances in the series (yes, even worse than some in III).

Very nice explained... just on point. The word "atmospheric" defines CIV V BNW, for that reason CIV V G&K was my first game that involved me in the franchise. CIV IV was much better for me in some way playing it after, but you know... being the first game for me with that awesome map to explore and that atmospheric feeling makes me even now to play a new journey in CIV V from time to time. CIV VI is even better, but I don't know why it gives me some "clash of clans" vibe with the aesthetic that you mentioned. The graphics and UI are not the first part for me in a CIV game because I enjoy very much the mechanics, but you know is a part of the game too.

P.S. You made my day with "Trajan who looks like Julius Caesar from Asterix, and Alexander who looks like a Californian surfer with a botched nose job." :)))
