I've just reinstalled civ1 from an old cd I found. When I installed it back on and hit 4 for sb, no sounds worked. All other sound options work except that. Does anyone know how to fix this?
This is an open source program that emulates old soundcards, basically designed to overcome XP's sound issues in DOS applications.
2. Install VDMSound 2.0.4
3. From then on, when running an application that has sound problems, instead of double-clicking the shortcut or executable, right-click it and select "Run with VDMS" from the menu.
As Matrix pointed out, you cant do it in XP. But you can do it on your PC by either making a DOS partition, or buying a second hard disk and installing DOS on it. Then boot from that drive when playing Civ.
Of course if you do that, VDMS goes out the window and you have to start hunting for DOS drivers for your sound card, or an old soundcard, and a copy of DOS 6.2
I come to late to recommend dosbox indeed. But I talked a lot about that wonder in an all other games thread. I use it to play really old games such as Lotus or Speed ball 2, with a great compatibility level.
