About a month ago while reading all the hype about Civ3, I went to look for my Civ2 CD so I could get some exercise in, and play some new scenarios. To my dismay, I searched in vain for an hour and a half, not able to locate the treasured disc. Now the copy I had was Civ2 Gold fo Windows. This is out of print and not sold at any local or online retailers I can find. I bought the game for $30 about 2 years ago, but now plain ol' Civ2 retails for $10...So my question: What is your opinion on me downloading Civ2 Gold? I see it that I'm a strandard fan, and I need my fix ASAP. At least 3 weeks till Civ3, I need my Ci2 Gold!

Note: No matter what anyone says, I'll probably still download it, but I'd enjoy some input :)

I can tell you that us federal statute, signed by then-President Clinton in 1996, allows an individual to maintain a backup of any software they legitimately buy. If you ruin you original CD, you do not have to go buy a new CD. You can use your backup.

I'm afraid there is no current refuge under the letter of the law for that. However, if you obtained an ISO image of a CD that you own, and burned a new backup CD, then if I were the Judge, you'd be OK by me. I defy someone to differential identical bitstreams! But I'm not even a lawyer, and "they" do not consult me. :) ;)
