Civ3 complete wont load

I know its much later than the original posts but I am also looking for help with a D2D download of civ3complete. It won't do anything, hit autoplay, hourglass for a few seconds and nothing. Will try what I see here and update the results. I also dwnld to a netbook to take with me while I travel, etc. gotta have civ in some form with me! Also won't play Europa Universalis Rome and Vae Victis add on. Maybe this screen resolution fix will help, thanks for the posts. (Does play Freecol tho.)

Tried the above;

Add the following lines to the file:
KeepRes=1
PlayIntro=0

Still didn't work but my max resolution of the netbook may not be what it takes, my max would be 1024 x 600? From the above posts that may be why none of the big games will work, #$%%#@!

Also downloaded a utility to get the screen resolution to the correct size, still doesn't work. (a1ctl, I think) Resolution did change but game still won't play. Do any games, even older ones play on a netbook?

Check your refresh rate. Try Refresh=60 in the .ini.

Thank you. That's easy for me, it's the only option available! At least I know I have that part correct! Thanks again. I'm thinkin' it must be the resolution, the little fix must not be enough to get the game to run.

Do you have DirectX working properly? That can cause problems. What version of DiretX do you have?

Direct X 9.0c. The more research I do it seems to be the resolution problem. I put the lines in the ini file and it finally ran but couldn't see the bottom of the game screens. My max is 1024x600 and tried some of the ini "fixes" and some small downloads to force the issue. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yep, that would be the issue. Civ3 is designed to run in a minimum of 1024x768. To get it to work in anything smaller requires some extraordinary measures.
