The results for Civ3 GOTM 13 have now been posted. 103 players submitted their games last month and the winners are:

Gold: Moonsinger
Silver: Cartouche Bee
Bronze: Creepster
Highest score by diplomacy: Atoxox
Fastest finish by domination: DaveMcW
Fastest finish by conquest: Gen. Maximus
Fastest finish by space ship: Kemal
Fastest finish by culture: jimtess

Congrats to these winners! For the current (Deity) GOTM, you should submit your game even if you got defeated by the AI, for statistical purpose. We expect to post the GOTM results faster next month. Thanks for playing the GOTM!

Not quite. ;)
I managed the Space Race victory in the last Deity GOTM (#7) in 1410AD.
And skaternate was close behing in 1430AD. :goodjob:

But I assume that this Deity GOTM might have another such early launch, although I´m not sure on that. The Pangea map of the last Deity game helped the Tech rate enormously. :mischief:
Too bad I won´t be able to finish, I´m just about to kill the Persians and am taking on the Zulu and it should still be early enough. But stupid Christmas, New Year and my birthday won´t allow enough time, not with these immensely long wars.

Congrats to everyone, especially Moonsinger for beating Cartouche, the master of milking himself, in the milking process! ;)
The early domination wins are once again really awesome.
:D

But still, as I look at the scores of gotm13, i see that the top10 spots have been taken by guys who finished in 2050. Smells like a little point milking, or whatever it's called. I mean the people who play to conquer should be treated differently than the ones who maximize their happiness and 'go for the points'. Or was the GOTM created for that?
I dont want to be rude, i'm sure that the 38 players who got higher places in the scoring are better civver than me, it's just a point i wanted to make.
Anybody else feel the same way?
Any suggestions?

Highest score by diplomacy: Atoxox

Well done Atoxox. I actually tried to maximise my score for my Diplomatic Victory but was convincingly beaten. Would you like to contribute to a "Diplomatic Strategy Guide" ???

I wholeheartily agree. I will never milk a game. It has absolutely nothing to do with playing skill IMHO.

I would have to disagree. To maximise a score requires great skill and patience. At the later stages every city has to be macro-managed. Personally this does not appeal, but that does not prevent me from admiring those players who can and do.

Also, regardless of whether a player is going for a fastest or highest score medal, it is the same set of strategies and skills that is used in the early stages - a fast build up and domination of the map. Cracker's QSC should (which may have been one of reasons for this competition) reveal similar strategies for those highly sucessful games.

That was an impressive attempt this month (almost a top 10). So have you finished your run of OCC's

My worst performance ever.
My first loss at Monarch since April 2002.

I didn't even make it for a Philibuster award.

Still, I'm 21st in global ranking.:king:

Yes, but not playing skill. It requires some math and a lot of free time to waste.

Thanks. :)
Actually I played for a 20,000 culture win in my capital but for lack of time I had to settle for domination. Had I chosen domination as my goal, I could have skipped a lot of techs and quit nursing the neighbours for GL's much sooner, for a far earlier finish.

Great job Kemal for the Space Race victory in 1480AD! That has to be a record for a Space Race victory.

Yeah that is amazing. Especially considering that the NEXT quickest space-race victories by oPseudonym (1766) and myself (1800) were about 300 years later! Good job Kemal.

Ecco, Ribannah, and others,

The new staff members for the GOTM agree with you wholeheartedly that the balance between the rewards for early victory skills and full game milking have been off.

In my game in GOTM12, I had the games sewed up fairly early but was a bit slow due to wierd results from the RNG. My only choice was to spend the next 20 days miliking and micromanegeing every detail of the game to shoot for a high score medal. The game was tedious and I built over a 1000 MA, 25 empty Armies, and 150 battleships just to keep myself busy. We do not want to eliminate this bit of fun for the people who want to try it but the need to implement some changes to provide better balance is clearly recognized.

Please keep close contact with us in the next several weeks as we move to implement changes that will address these issues.

You have already met the first of our new staff positions and Creepster is hard at work fixing elements of the process that provide smoother collection of the submitted games plus identification of the players.

In the next week, I will introduce a second key staff member to you in the role of "Scoring Steward" and this person will begin to help guide everyone through the process of providing a clearer separation between the two scoring systems that recognize the global ranking of player performance in multiple different game events versus the scoring systems for the individual game events themselves.

It is important for us to recognize the difference between the Global Ranking and the Game Scoring Systems because they serve two different purposes and we will be implementing the changes to the Global Ranking system first because of how it effects recognition for the GOTM, QSC, and other game events that may be added during the progress of 2003.

Bear with us in the transition and give us your support to make the process of change as smooth and easy as possible.

Thanks Aeson. I like your list, I placed much higher! :) Your Excel skills are impressive... nice layout and presentation. I agree with the rankings in your calculations. Kemal completing a space race victory in 1480 is extraordinary, and he's rewarded accordingly in your list.

Hehe, Aeson's rank list looks very nice. :D ;)

I read the thread on its development, did you ever fix the problem of comparing milkers to a "perfect" score and fast finishers to a "pretty good" score?

Congratulation to all the winners!:goodjob: (everyone except Moonsinger since she was using nukes on her own citizens:()

-------

To Kemal: Congratulation!:goodjob: I just checked my game and noticed that I was still searching for Medicine in 1480 AD. In my book, you had played this game much better than me and I'm happy to be third on Aeson's score board.

The problem is that my 1896 Diplomatic finish did worse against Atoxox's 2050 Diplomatic Victory :p

Am I the only one who noticed that when it came to Domination, a Sinner edged out God !! :jesus: :whipped:

And just before Christmas

Thanks for the compliments, people. :)

I see the results have been revised on some points after they were put up (letting me climb from 22nd to 19th place :D ), thanks to the GotM team for thoroughly checking the games and compiling and processing the final results list.

Congrats to all winners, especially DaveMcW for his great domination victory. :goodjob:

Still working on the solution to that DaveMcW. A lot of it has to do with landmass formation, and I'm working on a calculator that will analyze the landform and make some adjustments accordingly. Also the change from date modifiers to turn modifiers helped balance it a bit.

In order for your submission to be valid, you have to be a valid member of the CFC forum (this forum). Since you just registered a few days ago, my guess is that your game was rejected because you weren't a member here.

I finally made in the top ten list wow. Didn't think I would ever make always seem to be just slacking behind the big players. Great. :crazyeye:

Even Better!!

Just noticed I made it to the 8th place in the global ranking. Dubbel wow. Seems like al the long hours civing is finally paying off :king:
