Hi,

Maybe one of you can help me...
I tried to install Civ3 and when it gets to 38% installed, it gives me an error asking for 'Disk 0' because it could not find the file 'data3.cab.' But when I search the cd manually I cant find any files named 'data3.cab.' I found data1 and data2 but not 3.
Is this something that has happened to anyone else before?
I am running Win98 Second Edition, everything is current.

I've had exactly the same problems ecxept this happens to me when the installation process is at 72% and on Win 95. I've tried lots of things but don't really know what to do PLEASE HELP SOMONE

I wish I could offer you guys some real cool advice; something that would make your problems disappear like waving a magic wand. :(

Unfortunately, it looks like you have run afoul of the CD Copy-Protection scheme used for Civ3. My only suggestion for you is to contact Infogrames, and explain your problem. They should be able to help you. (They have helped others with similar problems. :) )

This is what the Infogames techsupport guy emailed me, I havent had a chance to try it yet. But I thought I would post it for anybody else having problems.

Click on the Start Menu and select Run. In the Run dialog box, clear any
text in the open field and type MSCONFIG and click OK. In the System
Configuration Utility, change the system to Selective Startup and uncheck
Load Startup Items. Apply the changes and reboot your system.

Clean the CD with warm water and use a cloth towel to dry it. Do not use
any paper towels or abrasive products that may scratch it.

Try installing the game directly off the CD and see if that does the trick.
Open the My Computer Icon, right-click on the CDROM and select Explore. In
here you will find Install.exe or Setup.exe. Double-click this and the
installer should start.

If that doesn't work, try copying the game from the CD to your harddrive by
creating folders for each of the CDs on your desktop (e.g. Disc1, Disc2,
etc.) and simply copy files from each CD to the respective directories on
your desktop. Once you have them on your harddrive, reboot your machine and
install the game from the files on your harddrive.

If all else fails, try testing the game on another computer and see if the
game will load there. If not, the CD is most likely defective, and you will
want to return it to where you purchased it for a replacement.
