Civ3, PTW, C3C, Gold Edition, etc.

What's the difference?

Which package includes all the rest?

Right now I'm on Civ3 1.29f "vanilla". I have read bad comments about one of the releases being nothing more than an elaborate bug fix.

A quick education or direction to a link that explains the differences would be appreciated.

Civ3 came out, then PTW, then Gold edition, then C3C.

Gold edition is basically Civ3 + PTW + a patch, it contains nothing more.

C3C includes PTW, and hence includes Gold edition. This, along with Vanilla civ is all you want
