Civ3 / PTW Mac MultiPlayer

I've been thinking it might be a good idea if we start discussing our options for PTW multiplayer. Also, if anyone from MacSoft is surfing they'll notice our interest.

Now, I've never played a MP game before, just succession games w/ my brother-in-law. The PC version will have a hosting site ready for them to pair up and play through. The official word is that this isn't an option for us, but maybe there is something (website host?) out there compatible for macs. We could begin lobbying a site. Or, one of us may be the "multiplayer-hosting-mac-daddy" and know how to organize / set up what is needed.

Lets hear those ideas!

I feel compelled to point out that there's no official word on a Mac version of the expansion yet, so the logistics involved should have no 'official word' either when it comes to the Mac, at least as far as I've read. Of course, I often find out news as you guys do, so don't read too much into my statements -- I could've easily missed something.

Well, two ideas come immediately to mind.

1. Gameranger

2. Assuming there's a capacity for simple TCP/IP play, we could have a thread/threads (maybe a seperate forum like the Tourney got recently) here for matching up. This would also work well for PBEM matches.

I don't have much to add (most of what I feel is about 'our situation'). However, the expansion looks great and I would be happy to play against the AI or anyone anywhere on multiplayer.

One of my gaming fantasies is to get five or six groups--of 3-4 people in each--playing teams games of Civ3 against each other. There would be quite a gap between turns, but I reckon that the interplay within teams would be great fun.

I have no experience whatsoever with MP with Civ; I am very curious to see how good of a transition a SP, turn-based game can go to a MP, turnless game.

I would love to play some of you fellow mac users who surf this forum. I really hope GameRanger support is included. The computer is so incredibly stupid that it ticks me off. Maybe that or I've just gotten so much better from surfing these forums.
