A Message From Firaxis Games

Now, I would think it would be fair enough to provide those that paid premium and got such a sub-par product with some form of compensation, say, 1 year worth of DLC for free. Not that I am one of those, because I learnt my lesson from civ before.

I am happy with the money I spent, I'm enjoying the game even though the UI is not ideal. I do not need anything for free - but will take it :)

Congrats on making this the first civ with simultaneous launch on multiple platforms with crossplay and cross save.
Agreed, that's an achievement that shouldn't be overlooked.

As a moderator here I would add my thanks for a launch that went much better than Civ 5 or Civ 6 which was a great relief to us and enables us to spend time playing instead of moderating :)

Thank you for your swift and extensive communication. It really helps being optimistic on the game's future.
I'd like to echo:
- pls give us a "Restart Button"
- "Map Search"
- Fast Movement / Combat
- Camera needs to hover to AI attacks!
- pls explain better, not only wherefrom geographically ("Southwest"), but also why my tile receives certain adjacencies, i.e.: which adjacent building/improvement is cause for possible adjacencies
- ...
And that's only of the top of my hat.
All the best to you!

This for me is the only feature that really bothers me constantly. Hope it will be high on the priority list.

Another smaller point about UI scaling: It is on by default. On a 4K screen, the menus look all blurry because the bitmaps are low-res. Took me some time to understand that you have to deactivate scaling to get a sharp menu.
The UI will get very small but at least it looks good.

But of course it would be even better to have hi-res UI graphics, suitable for 4K.

Otherwise the game is beautiful and I am having a lot of fun defending against all the IP.

I'm afraid to say I am? You say "thank you for your patience" when you feel you are inconveniencing someone. You say "thank you" when someone has done something that benefits you at their expense. It's a polite phrase that puts you at the mercy of the other persons response. I do not understand why it would be inappropriate here.
The correct course of action would've been to delay the game until it's proper ready, or perhaps to label it as early access to indicate that it still need some work.

That is the first time i saw the words "Early Access". For me it is clearly early access (at a premium price) but this is not really transparently communicated. I assume this to be on purpose to be able to ask the current price, but the consequence of this are then the bad reviews from everyone that expected something finished/polished.

I think they just made a mistake with wording. The game is not in Steam’s Early Access program, which refers to games that are released prior to a 1.0 milestone.

The actual phrase I believe they meant is “advanced access”, which is what developers use for granting certain preorders the game a few days or a week before its official release.

Ok, that would be something completely different. I can see that they are not in Steam’s Early Access program that is why i find "Hey everyone! We're officially in Early Access" seems weird. But maybe not that far from the truth :)

They've been using the "Early Access" terminology for a bit, I know for instance that all of their twitter posts had been calling it as such leading up to release

Don't fall to the enchantement

Wake up!

One hotkey that was fundamental is just Enter to immediately end the turn, plus any pop up of any sort. Shift+Enter doesn't count.
You need negative war support to declare war means you can not backstab your Allies?
The subdivide the hexes in multiple smaller hexes wasn't supposed to work like that with infinite city sprawl...
It was meant to suggest infinite city sprawl in one single hex...
Humankind most horrid feature is the game of gaining function, in which you need to master district placement to maximize adjacency output.
I don't understand why take away the perks of the units, and give it all to the cities. It's a destructive combo.
Give back some basic perks to units before launch please!
Why can't our beloved Legionaires become a commander???
At least commanders could be captured and exchanged for leaders like POW???
Sacrificed on the Altars???
Play death and then wake up and kill their king???
Give us something interesting!!!
A Trojan Horse!!!
I swear I want to sacrifice Benjamin Franklin leader of Rome or exchange it for its weight in gold...
Or swap it with Helen of Troy...
Leaders swap but at least have them Age related... It's unbearable to see Benjamin leader of Rome...
What have we done to deserve this???

I mean, yes, obviously (though while it is labeled "Advanced Access" on Steam, they have been calling it Early Access in marketing materials, though again this isn't stuff that could likely be fixed within the next four days, so this entire aside is pointless), but I don't understand what about thanking the community for sharing their criticisms is particularly offensive compared to any other comment.

Oh, that's because people went in ready to be mad about something.

Agreed. I have 15 hours in the game and am having a lot of fun. It solves most of the issues that kept me from finishing Civ 4/5/6 games, which is all I could ask for. The idea that we got a "sub-par" game and deserve compensation is extreme, and bizarre coming from someone who admits they have not even bought the game.

Wait, turning OFF high resolution scaling will make things sharper? I assumed it meant that it was using high resolution assets, not just blowing up low resolution assets. I'll be turning that off immediately.

It seems to mean that it’s scaling the UI but the game doesn’t have larger images to use for that UI, so it gets blurrier.
