I read and looked over the civ3 information and reference but cannot find the answer to my question, one that probably no one needs because it does not effect game play...

How many turns are there in a standard civ3 game?

I am asking because I am in the process of designing my own civ4 and want to compare. I may post the file in the future once I get all the different concepts and ideas aligned if anyone is interested.

Thanks in advance

I know someone figured this out. I'm on my way to bed right now, so I don't have time to search for it, but just after the game came out (or just before, during beta testing, I can't remember which) someone broke it down as to how many turns were. They had a number for each of the different increments (such as the # of 1-year turns, 2-year turns, 5-year turns, etc) and then a total number of game turns. If I get a chance tomorrow evening I'll take a look, but it should be on the site here somewhere.

540

divided

25 at 50 years per turn
25 at 40 years per turn
40 at 25 years per turn
50 at 20 years per turn
100 at 10 years per turn
100 at 5 years per turn
100 at 2 years per turn

Well, there's a long answer to your question. Here is a good link.

Are you playing chieftain? You could choose Russia which is scientific and expansionist. The scientific trait allows you to buid research increasing improvements at a lower cost. Also, you'll get a free tech as you enter each new age. The exapnsionist trait allows you to pop techs from goody-huts in the early game (use a pangea map). This'll save research time by getting free techs.
Here is a thread I started on reaching space on chietftain..

Good luck.

Ok the russians :jump:, "thanks helping a poor and humble player" (Matthew 11:24):jesus:
