Civ3 units? Civ3 terrain?

Hi, got a few questions I hope someone have the answer.

1) I guess I'm not the only one favoring CIV3 graphics and style over CIV4 - from what I have read around anyway. But as CIV4 shall be the most moddable of games, is it possible to use CIV3 units, terrain and other graphics in the game? Or it that way to complex? I mean I guess you would have to lock the view somehow if you where to use the flc's of CIV3.

I would also prefer CIV2 instead of CIV4. Not only do I actually like the simplistic (board game) look over this 3D thing, but I also experiense serious lagging on large maps. Funny since I can play HL2, CS:S and other FPS-games without any lag what so ever.

If there is no chance in hell that the graphics of CIV2 or CIV3 could ever work with CIV4 - is there possible to delete all that "movement" in terrain in CIV4? How to delete birds flying off etc?

2) I also use the "single" unit option now, but in battles it's hard to see what's going on as the health bar disappears - anyway to keep it during battles?

3) Delete all animals from the game? I personally find this a very annoying part of the game, that an animal actually can attack a unit (which represent lot's of people) - I mean how often do people get killed by wild animals? If any animals should be in the game it should be flies, mosquitos etc - that spreads disease.

The question is, how to delete them. Do I just open up every XML and delete all entries with references to them or would that seriously mess up the game?

4) Abandon cites is not possible at the moment, unless I have missed something... But could this be altered in an easy way?

That's all I could think of at the moment. The graphics are the most important, because first of all, I think the 3D world of CIV4 reminds me of games like Age of Empires etc and I don't get the "civilization-feel" about it. Second, the lagging is seriously annoying.

1) No. Except the last part: turn off animations. In fact, if you really want to see a boost in performance (and a decrease in time spent waiting to play), go into options and turn off anything you don't feel you need, including battles (switch movement/battles to quick). It takes me 4-5 hours total to play through an emperor game on a standard map, it probably took twice or thrice as long with movement and battles on. There are also a lot of settings in the config file (you'll find a shortcut to it in your main civ or warlords directory) that can be altered, but it shouldn't be necessary. Also: there's a thread for a minimal graphics mod that was posted recently which is in development, so you might check that out.

2) I don't think so. See above for my opinion on battles.

3) You can do that, and you don't have to delete every reference to them. All you have to do is remove them from the list of units that barbarians use.

4) I've seen that request a number of times, if it hasn't already been modded it is probably on someone's to-do list.

For lag: there are also other things you can do, depending on your graphics card. Look around in tech support and using forum search (not here, tho); if you have an nvidia card you might be able to seriously improve performance without sacrificing much graphics quality (I was able to, anyhow).

Check out my thread.

Pretty late for a cross-post :crazyeye:
Spoiler :
I linked to your thread in my text bomb, I was looking at it earlier since I can't play late game on anything bigger than standard; might be more of a memory/cpu issue, but anything is worth a shot.
