Civ4 first details!

Yeah, and start saving money for the new computer to play that game!

Yes, that'll be me.There's no chance my Pentium II (400MHz) will run a 3D graphics engine, is there? C3C is slow enough already! And will a 32Mb Graphics card handle this, do you think?

These ideas sound cool, I agree that they should spend time to keep bugs to a minumum.

How long, exactly, have Firaxis been working on Civ IV ?

3D sounds good,i wish that AI will be on a higher level-of ''intelligence''-and art work won't get cut for issues of ecconomy!
So i am in no rush, they can have all the time they need to create a great game and not just another game.

I like complex yet simple things... but I have a bad feeling about Civ4. Hope to get more reports as the work progresses, the general direction is dangerous imo!!

I agree, anyway for civ 4 i will probaby have to get a new computer, i think they should have released another exp. before civ 4 for like a total of 45 civs. i played vanilla civ3 a couple days ago and i had forgot that there were only 16 civ and no agricultural trait :(

but it would be greatif they could get the AI "smarter" and be able to sign permanent alliances like in civ 2 but also have 20 turn alliances vs. a civ like in civ 3. If you're in a permanent alliance the AI should help you out with techs and stuff, like trade some science funding for a luxury, or work together on a science project, That would be awesome, like if you and another civ are both researching fission and you have it in 20 turns you could agree to work together and have in ten turns. I think civ 4 will be fun, but i wish we could see a screen to get the basic idea

i noticed alot of people are willing to buy a new computer just to playing civ4 in 3d, hmm, perhaps fraxis should expand into computer production along with its games?

i am thinking that the 3D stuff might look somewhat similar to alpha centuri? worked well, added a small part to the game (was a bit messy, but all the graphics were a little messy) if it was clean crisp graphics as in civ3 but 3D ala alpha centuri, something very nice could be pulled off .... going back to globe would be nice but im wondering how effective it would actually be? (other than looking lush and droolworthy) the real game is played up close and the ability to get a good overview has to be done on a flat world map, so the gameplay aspect of a globe map seems to be flat

Nobody has really mentioned the one thing that I noticed right off and cheered for! The maintenance of buildings and units will now be significant! In all previous versions of Civ, you could build massive armies with little thought to the cost. Now, it seems, they will finally make you pay for those huge armies! No more keeping 50 Stacks of Death around to counter the computer's invasions! Perhaps, the military costs may make drafting something more than just an expansion Scenario reality!
