Civ4 looking Warcraft III -ish?

Is it me or does Civ4 look like it's following in Warcraft III's steps as far as general appearance? The leader heads are all rather cartoonish now, and the game play definitely looks like Warcraft III. I'm not complaining. I liked Warcraft III but never got the hang of multiplayer, and single-player was too structured. It got boring quick.

Multiplayer in it is great, if they can go into unit details like in WCIII then that would be great. I don't think it looks so cartoony. I like the leader heads - it's really a matter of opinion.

srry but would everyone now stop comparing graphics to other games??? And bash the game before you even played it??? Civ 3 turned out to be great so why should civ 4 be bad??? Just wait a few months and we'll know!!! Thank you!

Merely an astute observation expertly delivered. I will play Civ4 no matter what.

I agree wholeheartedly ( even though I thought it up first :mischief: )

I think the leaderheads look a lot better than in Civ 3.

Well, no-one in this thread had actually bashed it. ;)

Comparison is what people do - they evaluate things against other familiar frames of reference - would you care if people wrote "These graphics look way better than Civ-1!" "Wow - the units look much better than the Age Of Empires units!"

Personally, I've never played warcraft, so can't really comment objectively - aside from saying that its the gameplay that is more important to me than graphics, and it sounds as if its going to be great. :)

I guess the thing for me is that people seem to have awful short memories. Leaderheads in Civ didn't even exist until Civ3 came out-and they were pretty darned cartoony, if you ask me-but not in a bad way.
Really, the only thing they have done in civ4-from all that I have seen-is to show you more than just the head (thus giving you a better idea of the Leaders' feelings towards you), and given them a great deal more personality.

To me, it doesn't look anything like Warcraft 3.

Agreed. I love the leader-heads, it gives them personality and just a little bit of humour. It will be amusing dealing with Louis XIV looking down his nose at me all the time - my main objective will be to try to make him smile at least once during my campaign!

And yeah i don't think it looks anything like WCIII either. I was saying that if they go into as much unit detail as Blizzard did in that game then i'll be very very happy.

Gameplay is all that matters. If it plays well, allows for a variety of successful strategies, is challenging, and fun... then I don't care what the graphics look like.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that :worship: Civ I :worship: did have leaderheads, even though they were left out of Civ II. I remember Stalin's evil grin and I felt like I made a deal with the devil :mischief:. Now that was cartoony :D !

I don't concern myself with the graphics so much, as long as they don't distract from the gameplay. Besides, if you're playing Civ for the graphics... well, I don't know how to finish that, because no one plays Civ for the graphics :p. That's like going to Alaska for the beautiful beaches ;) . As long as the Civ gaming experience is there, and the screen doesn't get too crowded, I'm good.
