Civ7 Developer Update (May 27), patch 1.2.1

Well, they still have not removed the onerous "ERA" system so I am still not interested in returning to the game. I would also like to see support for larger map sizes similar to Gedemon's giant earth from Civ VI that they took away from us with the asset limits.

Unfortunately, insufficient and doesn't address the hard core criticisms to the game. I really don't think they are understanding the problem, grave as it is, they are in. Doesn't interest me in the slightest, sadly.

ERA?

It's a bonus patch. The next big patch is in June.

They are both basically saying they don't like the core game and expect the patch to change the fundamentals of the game.
Yeah, I know. I still want to know what ERA means in this context. Is it just "era" but pointlessly capitalized, or is it an acronym for something?

I haven’t been able to play since the patch, just get that black screen. Core i9 5.8Ghz and RTX 5070Ti though I guess it’s not hardware related. None of the suggested fixes fix anything.

I had the broken loading screen, but just killed the game and it worked for me. @protocol7 If you go into Steam, on the betas tab, you can select the legacy which will at least get you back to the previous release version, hopefully that works.

For me, the only shock I had was that I was at 94% era progress, and finished the future civic, and it immediately jumped me to the next era, I never got the one turn at 100%. I was kind of hoping to at least have that one turn to decide what I wanted to spend some saved money on...

In addition to the "black screen of text" I'm also getting this problem with the action panel. The bottom of the image is the bottom of my window -- I didn't crop anything out. That's what it looks like. Not all units have this problem, only some. For instance, army commanders appear ok, while fleet commanders have the same problem as the burning arrow units here.

Also aerodrome commanders are completely useless now!

I actually had that happen the last game I finished before the patch came out. I was at 96%, needing one more turn to convert another civ's capital to my religion, and I had three turns left on my future civic research. And bam, the era ended right there - jumped to 100% and finished without giving me a final turn. My best guess is that some other civ finished up something that caused the era to end.

Thanks for the tip about the betas. I'd forgotten about that, having never needed to use it before. But with this bugfest, it may be necessary sometimes.

until they put the eras in order with events, historical and political, that justify leaders and eras the game will never be good

I played my first two ages with Pachacuti and he feels really powerful now. Food is easy to stack, so 10% of it as a production bonus is quite sizable. And that gets applied to everything. I am not sure how much is due to the Pangea map, but I never felt as dominant in Exploration age as in this game.

Did they fix the low amount of treasure resources in Exploration?
Now I have a definitifve answer: yes, they did.

Been fiddling around in Antiquity Age for several days, took a day off, finally today played into Exploration Age on Pangaea map, and the first two islands I found each had 5 Treasure/Distant Lands resources on them. Slapped down two settlements, and I finished the Economic Legacy Path before the 40th turn!

Now have to play with one of the 'original' maps to see if they've fixed the distribution on DL continent and island combinations. Probably won't get to it until next week, though.

I’m currently playing on continents plus and found 5 on islands close to my homeland, 3 on one island, and the other 2 on smaller islands. I didn’t make it to the other large land mass so I don’t know what was there but I agree they have added more as part of this last patch.

Hey I love that mod, but have you figured out a way to click on the middle unit if you have three or more units on the same tile?
I just click like mad while zooming in and out and hope for the best
But yeah I can't play the game without this mod. I still use it even though the action panel is broken for some units right now.
