"Civ4 will not run on this hardware setup"

I had the graphic settings turned up before I applied the patch to Civ4 and my computer ran everything perfectly. But now after the patch it won't let me run on anything besides the lowest settings for everything. Is there a way to force it to run on a higher setting?

I loaded the patch and I am now getting an occasional screen "flicker" and appearance problems on other apps ... nothing like this happened before. This whole game experience is a nightmare.

I have the same problem. It was fine before the patch, and is buggy after. The animations don't work, the light doesn't show up when a great person does their thing, etc.

I'm quite upset about it.

I got the whole thing to work by screwing around with the animations that it was showing in the settings. I still had the message that it wouldn't work, but it did.

WARNING: DO NOT apply the new patch if you DO NOT have problems with the original version. As simply as that. Only make sure that you have the latest video card drivers, Direct X 9.0c, Win Xp Sp1 (At least) and it should run great!

My PC specs are as follows:

Intel Pentium 4 2.6 Gig HT
512 Mb Ram
nvidia GeForce 5800 256 MB
ASUS Motherboard E-800
1 300 Gig HDD
1 160 Gig HDD

And running the original version of CIV4, (just installed it from the disc)

As you can see, is a good system, but I bet there are a lot of MUCH better gaming systems than mine running CIV4 and having problems.

there is an option in the config file that will turn off hardware checking. i don't know if this will help you, but it is worth a try.

in the _civ4config file it is:

[CONFIG]

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 0

set it to 1, save it and give it a try (always make a backup of the confi before making changes)

just a thought, might or might not work, if not, just put it back to 0 if you want

Same problem for me: Dell Optiplex GX620, 3.4GHz P4, 1 GB RAM

This is an insanely fast machine, but after the patch to 1.09 I get the "minimum specs" problem, choppy graphics, and glitches in the movies. Version 1.00 had none of these problems.

I'm reverting to 1.00 even though I want some of the gameplay fixes. It's more important that the game run correctly.

I did Nemo's fix, and it worked. I'm no longer getting the message, and it can run on the default settings just fine. No changes from 1.00.
